OK la..

I just searched 451 wheelset on taobao and came across this. :s13:

You have to use chinese terms to search.

锦麟-- kin lin.. famous for building light but high quality rims.

花鼓--- hub

辐条-- spokes

法嘴-- presta valve (french)

胎垫-- rim tape

74mm 开档-- front OLD 74mm

后130mm开档-- rear OLD 130mm

培林-- bearing

铜帽-- brass nipple

You have to understand your bicycle wheel config before searching for newer ones to replace.

Your Chinese very good, thanks for the translations! How u know 锦麟 is famous? If u nvr say, i don't even know of such a brand.

How you define easy to roll around?

Birdy has aftermarket roller wheels...

The aftermarket roller wheels for Birdy is my standard for easy rolling. Does a Tyrell ride faster than a Birdy in terms of the frame design?

Impression of the s42 litepro 406 74 130mm wheelset

Basically it's a 42mm 406 rim mated to a 74mm front hub and 130mm rear hub

Its not cheap at 320 SGD or so, but the service I got was good from the local parallel importer

The finishing looks good, but that's where all the good stuff ends

At 300 sgd I expect a properly tensioned and true wheel but what I got while it is true, the spoke tension was off

The hub bearings are a little small but they are fine, the rear wheel ratchet seems a bit rough maune have to ride it to come to a conclusion

The rims, I suspect the drilling of the rim hole for one rim was not totally straight, just slightly off, it doesn't affect riding it .

Sent from Asus ASUS_T00P using GAGT

Thanks for the preliminary review. Interested to know your thoughts after riding it.

The aftermarket roller wheels for Birdy is my standard for easy rolling. Does a Tyrell ride faster than a Birdy in terms of the frame design?

Many reputable wheels actually have their rims made by Kinlin.

Roller wheels wise.. The best is still by brompton if you watch carefully.

Tyrell geometry is similar to a road bike. Just that it has smaller wheels. It is also much lighter at 8.6kg (FSX) or 8.9kg (FX). Its wheel size is 406 20". It also has a very aggressive ride position. The con is that it folds very slowly and occupies a very large footprint.

Birdy wheel size is 18" 355. It's weight is about 10.6 to 10.9. It has full suspension at the front and rear. While it is heavier and has smaller wheels, it has very good comfort. Not to mention it has disc brakes which results in better braking. Also, as for gearing wise, some models uses shimano Capreo 26-9T cassette which has a theoretically higher gearing than Tyrell.

Based on my memory during testing, a Tyrell goes faster compared to Birdy. But a Birdy rides much more comfortable.

Tyrell is faster. Because of the wheel size though the gearing ratio is lower then the Birdy with the capreo.

I tried the tyrell fx fxa. And I bought the Birdy.

Buy a tyrell if :
No need to fold small small.
You want speed and can give up more comfort.
Prefer the looks

Birdy for:
Fold
Comfort
Customisation (Accessories as much as iphone accessories.) Well thought out add ons , lights holder , bottle cage mount and more

Also. The roller wheels is currently only for the Birdy mark 2.

Thanks for the Kinlin wheels info. Really interesting. Will try to google for more info.

Birdy(鸟车)is very popular in Taiwan forums from what i read so far. Seems like a good bike from what i read though the design needs some getting used to. Does changing to 406 wheels affect the fold of Birdy?

As for Tyrell, like the design. Very sporty look. The fold is a concern though as i often fold my bike and bring to shopping centres and MRT. It's fold doesn't seem to allow easy rolling around.

if you need a mobile folded bike, then a Brompton is the choice. Not that the Tyrell cannot do the job, but just clumsy. I have never brought my Tyrell up the train, but there are riders who does it frequently.

birdy need to use thin tires like schwalbe one on 406 rims and it can roll on its rear wheels.

reach is fast. the fold is quite small also, but need to take off the front wheel and attach it to the top tube.

Rims leh. Not wheels. :o

I am so tempted to get the Birdy. The tyrell folds just way too big, and the riding position is bloody aggressive. Don't think my wrist and neck can tahan long distances with Tyrell.

Did you upsize your birdy wheels to 406? Seems like there are more tyre options for 406 than 355. And if you upsize the wheels, how about your brakes? Just use v-brake extender? Then how about those that use disc brakes?
