Yes crankset can use any speed ..

Can an 8-speed crankset be used with a 9-10 speed rear? MTB parts, not road. WAs thinking, if I eventually need to change my cassette, I'd probably just go 9 or 10 and change the shifters. I know if I switch to 10 I'll also have to switch the derailleur, so perhaps not so much that.

Yes but i wouldn't recommend it especially if your crankset is a high mileage crankset and u use it on new drivetrain

For my road I have used 10 speed crankset successfully with 8 speed system. Just have to note the number of teeth, if you change the teeth from 53 to 50, you might probably need to shorter or lengthen your chain

Technically your 10 speed system can run 8 speed but you must know how to lock and set your limiter screws . I think you can get away if your deraileur is different speed from your shifter but your shifter must be the sar speed as your casette for optimal shifting

Nice. How about running road parts with MTB shifters? I saw Sora (yeah I know) parts on tgp and had thought it might be interesting on a hybrid. I can't use the typical MTB parts since my hybrid has a 48/38/28 configuration rather than the usual 44/32/22 setup.

Did think of a 50/39 instead. I never use the 28 anyway.

you can defintely use back the old mtb deraileurs and shifters on the 48T. just need to tune them properly.

if you really wanna get a sora STI shifters, you need to get those that are triple compatible (there are double shifters and triple shifters)

Hello all! I rmbr I once came here for advice for my crank arm coming loose... Well it's squared tapered. Recently, well maybe not that recent happened a few times back a month or so ago.. It happened again... The last time was that I change a crankset. Cost me quite some money.. :( but I believe the crank set is gonna go bad again after use pretty soon if I were to change a new crankset again... My thoughts is to change the BB so that I can step away from a square tapered BB that usually damage my crankset over time pretty quickly.

All in all, I wan something lasting... Not something that lasts for only 10 over long rides... Any advice?

Thanks Sadisticnoob. Haha. I think I wasn't clear.

I mean if I were to instead switch the 50/39(?) crankset and cassette to the Sora ones I saw (I hope it's not a downgrade over Alivio/Acera) but keep my RD and perhaps change the FD, would MTB shifters work? It's kinda like switching the hybrid to more of a road gearing. But I'm not sure if that's a wise move either. Was just thinking eventually when the crankset and cassette and chain wear out, whether it would be wise to do so. Seems like not many 8sp parts around.

Not that it's that worn out also la... A slight upgrade bug. :s13:

My square taper crank never come out before..

But If you really need a recommendation, you use shimano hollow tech 2 or Fsa megaexo system where the cranks are attatched via a spindle

You need to change the bb though

8 speed parts are pretty cheap online like e.g the 8 speed casette is only around 30 sgd on bike 24, crank is around 80 sgd

I'm not too sure if mtb shifters would work need to ask sd cause I never see any examples yet

Any idea about the cost and where to have it done?

I dunnoe why mine keep coming loose sia... Dunnoe if it's the nut issue or the BB that's thread was blunt or something. I would love to replace them myself, but I dun have the tools :(

Anyone knows where I can find this type of nozzle cap?
The light blue cap can be unscrewed to allow liquid flow out of from a bottle.

Yes you can mix road bike parts with mtb parts for your bike. You will only see higher end models of hybrids with road bike parts as they are generally more expensive parts.

Bike24 - Cassettes of SRAM, Shimano, Miche, Campagnolo, KCNC, Mavic, Surly, Pop Products, Token, DT Swiss, Tune, Dia Compe, Problem Solvers, Procraft, Sugino, Gebhardt and FSA

Yes it works as long as it is same speed. Just like how chains can be used on both mtb and roadie.:)

Crankset plus hollow tech BB would cost minimum $250 onwards depending on brand. Where do you stay? I have crankset if you stay in the east.
