I need help. What's the difference between the tooth capacity on say a Shimano 105? I see 3 different sizes.

anyone care to explain to me the difference between sora, 105, tiagra, ultegra? Ultegra is the best right?

I just bought shimano sora 3500 fd on crc for $20 then I realise 105 fd also around that price range. knn. feel so cheated.

Hierarchy would be sora, tiagra, 105, Ultegra and Durace. Difference is in number of speed, material use, weight, durability, ability to take higher stress, smoothness and PRICE:s13:
Buy liao don't think so much. just use.

You mean the number of teeth on the cassette?
Its usually 11-25, 11-28 or 12-32
Most of the bikes are on 11-25 with compact crankset meaning 50/34 teeth.
The smaller the range, the smoother the transition between each gear. Very good for sprinting and mainly flats riding. For the higher teeth range, its good if you are building a climbing bike. Easier to climb. Do note that for higher teeth range, you may need a medium cage Rear D.

Shimano 105 groupset is more than enough for amateur. Its the most value for money for good performance.

Go for ultegra if you can afford, although I would say its an overkill for most. I used to use a generic crank and I need to drop 5 gears to climb up Loyang Ave slope.. After changing to ultegra crank, I only need to drop two gears or at most 3 while still maintaining reasonable cadence.

Don't even bother checking the price of Dura-Ace. A Dura-Ace 11 speed crank already costs $880 at Hup Leong. :s22:

SmilingDevil does your shop service Soul wheels?

my front wheel needs a slight truing and the rear got creaking sounds, 4000km no service, i guess the grease is gone or whatever.

the rear tooth is like gears lor , standard nowadays is 11-28 (not too sure if 105 have this)

the rear cassette the bigger the number the easier to pedal

ntu bike rally lor

168/88 km cheapest cycling event in singapore

the highest end stuff the quality is good, they dont wear out easily. 105 is good enough, but i havent ridden the new 105 so dunno too much about it

DA crank is really cheap 2nd hand and overseas.

I owned a total of 3 dura ace crank at some point in time (2x 7800 and 1x 7900) if youre lucky they can be yours for under 250 sgd. I now left only one. Basically it will be my crank of choice if im using the 24mm spindle system, easy to install relatively stiff and looks great.

I see from CRC that there's 3 sets of tooth capacity, how to determine which one is best? I'm having a Tiagra set now looking for a change. Mainly touring (I have a Giant Anyroad)

Might pop down your shop :)
