I understand that most HR roles need minimum diploma.
However, I only have O levels and got called up for HR job, which those job scopes normally require diploma. Furthermore, they are willing to convert me to perm if I perform well during probation.

Does that mean that my past working experience is considered decent enough for the company to shortlist me for an interview ?

I do have a basic payroll cert from SHRI but did not include it in my resume.
So it's like the employer thought I have 0 HR knowledge but still shortlist me, furthermore it's Japanese MNC.

hi hh,

completed all interview rounds and was contacted by HR just before xmas that i would be offered the job after they finished their background screening which will take about 2 weeks due to the holidays. the starting date (2nd week of jan) was already agreed then, but they did not offer the pay package yet.

fast forward to today (after the holidays), i have yet to receive a reply of offer from HR. i have tried to contact HR (calls & emails) but could not get a response from them. as the starting date is looming very near, i'm quite worried that i have been slotted in as a backup and they dont intend to follow up with the offer.

is this a normal practice and i should just be patient and wait for them to contact me, or am i being taken for a ride?

p.s. company involve is quite a big MNC, so i guess slipshod HR practises shouldnt be an issue.

1) Does it matter if you are back up or not? If you get offered the role, means you are the best candidate
2) When hiring the candidate, is not about the "best", but the "best" subject to availability (is the candidate keen on the company, is the candidate too expensive, does the candidate have long notice period, etc)

Yes it is normal. Usually they will call you to ask you if you are keen, then give you a verbal offer, if you accept, then they will slowly do up the contract.

But sometimes it takes slow because contracts need to be signed off by senior management (if the managers on holiday then they cannot give you the physical contract)

just curious if they really needed 3wks to reply and its not even an offer but just seeking confirmation of interest.

Yes. Normal

Hi Headhunter,

I would like to know "which company name should I put in my resume?"

Meaning to say:
My payroll and benefit is from XYZ Recruitment agency but
I assigned to ABC Pte Ltd
then ABC outsource me to their client "EFG Pte Ltd"

This is very common for IT industry, which company should I put in my resume?
Thanks.

Hi HH,

Can you comment on how background checks are conducted by those third party companies?

While it is probably easy to check for education and career background, how are criminal background checks done?

Reason for asking is because I was interviewing some candidates for a position earlier on and was keen on a particular candidate but he had a gap on his work history which he didn't offer me a satisfactory answer, and when I called CID to check for his records I was told it was confidential and will not be revealed to third parties.

I am considering engaging one of these third party companies to conduct the checks for me but since CID said such information is not shared then I find it may be futile.

Can you share your experience on this please?

Thanks.

It is a trade secret within the industry and i cannot comment on this.

But the companies like first advantage charge very expensive, (as much as $5000 to $50,000 per person) - If they let anyone and everyone know how they do it, then they won't be charging so much already.

They will usually call up the relevant personnel within the government sector (usually low level staff), link them together, then dig the info.

Hi HH

I applied a role via an agent, and I got feedback that the company is keen to offer me except being unable to meet my current salary due to internal equity. I was told there was an ongoing discussion between the agent and company's recruiter between Mon and Wed, where both sort of agreed on a salary that has been approved. The agent then tried to negotiate extra $100, and the recruiter has now sent the new proposal for approval and once all ready the company's recruiter will call me to make a verbal offer.

It has since been 3 days I have not got any call from the company's recruiter. A bit worried cos next Fri is my last day.

Usually how long does it take for new proposed number to be approved? And if the new number is rejected, will they retract the offer or offer based on the old figure?

Thanks!

Hi Headhunter,

I jut make another small change, now
I would like to know "which company name should I put in my resume?"

Meaning to say:
My payroll and benefit is from XYZ Recruitment agency but
I assigned to ABC Pte Ltd, to work there.

So in resume, I put company as ABC
or XYZ(onsite to ABC?)

Thanks again
