Hi.. Been trying to look for a job for about close to 4 months after NS. Got a few offers and interview but still cant really decided what to venture in. Finally have decided to go into the banking industry.

Just want to ask is being a Associate officer in UOB/ Bankteller in ocbc a good start for me? Only a local Diploma in here without exp and Dip not related to banking too

Is it still possible to enter a bank as a fresh grad at 33 or 34? Armed with smu magna cum laude degree and some telemarketing experience..

Dont mind a lower pay since the competitors are grads around 25 years of age..

What are the ways to increase my chances of getting shortlisted for interview? Successful internship and connections..? Please advise

Yes they will but only hr reasons

Eg: were you fired or resigned or it was contract job

Things like you resign because of your boss, etc will not be revealed usually (unless they call your boss but it's not common)

Does sound like a low level job with limited progression job though

In an ideal situation yes, but if your course starts at at certain time and you cannot hit the 1.5 years then don't bother with the timeline (it's not a hard and fast rule)

I definitely can hit the 1.5 years. So just to confirm, even after I graduate 4 years later with this 1.5 years experience in a diploma position. It will definitely boost my employment significantly right?

This is what my CV will look like in the future (year 2021) if I continue working 1.5yrs and study 4yrs UniSIM

• graduate at 28yo
• UniSIM Degree in Finance (Jul 2017 - Jul 2021)
• 1.5 years experience in diploma position for gov finance institute (Dec 2015 - Jul 2017)

To sum up the question. Will point 3 play a significant role for my employment in the future?

Hi, can you advise what is the best way to do a mid career industry switch? I'm currently at around 120K annual compensation, in the shipping industry for 15 years in procurement role. I couldn't seem to be able to get an interview when applying for procurement roles outside shipping. I don't even mind related industries like logistics etc.

The thing is, I've been getting calls fm recruiters, mainly through linkedin on jobs but they are all for roles in the shipping industry. I want out!! lol

They check on job title, salary, responsibilities and reasons for leaving mostly

Maybe you should update your linkedin profile and say you looking to make a switch of industry

Apply directly to the companies via their job ads as well

And update your cv in the various job portals

Firstly you should never give current company references

Or secondly you can tell them current company references but they can only call them up after you tender or have left the company already

Base on what you say, 1.5 years is not going to be significant since your course is 4 years

Not as if you have like 4 to 5 years (which is significant)

You will not get a lot higher compared to others cos tbh, 1.5 years is considered the bare minimum

What if the position was some time ago?3-4 years

1.5 years is pretty 'worthless' in a way. It's not useless but not substantial. Not much emphasis will be put on it. It can be beneficial, but not a bargaining chip.
