What if we don't state expected salary? How do companies decide how much to offer?

What if the candidate is currently underpaid and even with his expected 20% increment, it is still below the new role salary range. Does the company auto adjust and offer higher than his asking of 20%,

You should do more research instead of simply relying on others.. Ur job title isn't impt..can u see how doing ur current job can help u in getting ur future job? If yes then continue

Well it is possible that they have either
1) Hired someone else
2) Not shortlisted anyone yet because nobody is outstanding enough (including you )

1) Internal equity
2) Salary budget they allocated to the role

Internal equity means they compare the new dept you will be working with and how much they are paid and what is their experience vs yours

It also depends on how senior your role you will be performing

No the company will not even consider you even if the role is still open (unless they are really really desperate)

I don't work on specifics because i don't cover every single role for recruitment in Singapore, i can only give general advice.

But generally rule of thumb is, don't be focused on the title, but on the actual job scope which you are doing.

As for specific finance details, you can go to www.investopedia.com and they will be able to provide further insights

When employer (esp banks), when they do a reference check on the potential candidate, will they be able to obtain CPF records of the candidate? If they can, would they also be able to know which company had made the CPF contribution?

depends on your prior job history, and what reason you gave. Usually companies have no issue with people taking time off even up to a year, depending on what kind of job you are applying for.

Currently in my mid 30s and planning to switch to a normal office hours job to start a family. Is it possible to get 2k (half my salary) for <50 hours work week office job?

Yes it is possible, or you can move to do a sales related job relating to engineering?

Less than 2.5k usually.

But pay will depend on what area of compliance you are doing specifically.

No. So far i have not come across any financial institution that does a reference check on CPF records.

most of the ads post a whole list of complex task and high qualifications and work experience even for junior role.

I'm currently working in an engineering firm, and have also been studying for a part time degree in finance. I'm planning to switch over to the finance sector (FI, banks, etc...), is it advisable for me to do so now? As I was thinking of gaining some industry experience before getting my degree. What other job areas in finance can I look for when the banks are reducing head count or not taking in new hires?
