I am looking at leaving my position next year, but I am not sure where should I look for a new job and how.

I am still studying part time.

Should I apply through recruitment agencies?
Should I apply through direct employers on job portals (but I see a lot of ads are from recruitment agencies)?
Should I apply directly through the company instead (from their own websites)?

I would want to try a larger firm or MNC. Never been there before. But the jobs on job portal mainly either recruitment agencies or smaller companies...:(

Or should I use LinkedIn? How will they find my profile...

Hi HH,

Can you advise if I should always tell a HH the truth? For example, my reasons for leaving current role.

Thanks!

hiring will be slow, but companies will still replace people that have left, although new headcount will be difficult and most roles will be difficult to fill because people will be waiting for bonus to be paid out next year which is only a few months away

Yes it is recognised.

Usually junior management will require 5 years to qualify as an assistant manager at a good MNC

Usually for procurement is due to supply and demand, because as Singapore moves away from certain sectors, less people will be required, and people are expected to specialise

1) Yes it is a bad strategy. Unless you are willing to 1) take a pay cut, 2) do something similar to graphic design but different (so at least your past experience comes into handy)

2) You are a job hopper if you cannot justify why you left your last company. If for example, the company closes down, then you will not be considered a job hopper (but then the prospective employer will possibly question your judgement why you keep joining these kind of companies in the first place)

3) No idea

Yes they do. Because they need to match your experience to their client's requirements, but they might have other clients who might match your qualifications and requirements even if their current client does not, that is why they need to see your cv.

Hi HH.

Would like to ask for point 2...if one leaves a job because his probation was extended for 3 months (i.e. served 8 months in total), would he be considered job hopper?

TIA

I think many positions are not in the hurry to fill and the employer is spoiled with too much choices.

Recently I received one email to inform me that there are 140+ people applied for the position I applied for, the company has decided to hire someone internal eventually. Wtf !!!!

Same thoughts as you. So sometimes I really wonder are the companies truly hiring or what. Year end I thought usually the job openings should be drying up further...

Quite worried what will happen next year as I am looking at an exit from my current job by then...

Hi headhunter,

I have 3 years middle office experience and is currently with a bulge bracket. A stable trading SME, has approached me to offer a dealer role in commodities. I am keen to take up the offer however they are offering me a 1.6k monthly pay cut during 3 months probation, and subsequently reduced to $900 pay cut after probation. The company offers anniversary bonus in Jan, meaning every year you complete you get one month bonus, and first quartile performance bonus in April, holiday allowance 6k in June, 3rd quartile performance bonus in sep, 13 month bonus in Dec, and a full year performances bonus at end of Dec. I'm contemplating because the cut is too much. And what if things don't turn out as what the CFO said? I currently have 21 days leave while they only have 14 days. Is this a good deal? Do you have advices for me?

Depends on the seniority of the team you are managing

I would say it is not a good deal, because most contracts are not legally binding even if you sign it.

They can say anything, then say economy no good then don't give you your dues

Job title more important or job role more important ?

For example:
an Accounts Executive job covering full set accounts (AP + AR + GL)
VS
an Assistant Accountant job covering AP or AR or GL

Which will be a better option ?

Hi HH,

job hunting seem much more difficult compared to the past.

1 executive position appears on jobstreet and average applicants until job close can go up to 300.

furthermore, there are several job portals + not counting company own job portal.

Dear Headhunter and All, appreciate some advice on my situation.

I quit without a job (yes not advisable but I was turning into a zombie), recently went for a interview via a recruiter where I asked for 20% increment, the company said its "within their Budget". Today, recruiter called me and said the company can only offer me 12% increment as I might not have enough relevant experience. Told her I will need to consider.

What do you guys think? Should I say no, I am strictly looking for a 20% increment to the recruiter? Or is 12% reasonable in this market? It is the same industry, job scope is perhaps half similar to what I was doing so I have the knowledge.

Do you think the recruiter is conveying a lower amount to me on purpose for her benefit? I also know I'm their most preferred candidate cos my Friend there alr saw them interviewing others but not qualified.

Should I take the risk and say no? Will they forego me then?

Thanks guys!
