let's say i have good experience/record working in a IT sales-related field then i join another MNC which does IT but higher role/scope within 6 months, i feel like quitting despite performing much above average because

1) i don't think i was sufficiently trained/set up for success in my role
2) The JD and role didn't match
3) I feel personally im at best will only be pretty good at it. will never be very good at my job cos its not a good fit

Recruiters see my resume that I have only joined 5 months ago, will they think im a job hopper? what should I say to explain why im looking for another job so soon?

also, is it possible for sales role people to transition to non-sales/analyst related roles? i want to do that but recruiters keep pushing me the sales related jobs and not really the analyst type ones after I tell them what I am looking for.

lastly, what job portal do you recommend? non finance/science industry

For all things related to whether you are a job hopper or not, please remember. It is not just about how long you have been in your current job, but your track record

EG: You work in your company for 3 months and want to leave, but your previous job you work for 5 years, therefore you are not a job hopper. (If you have a perfectly valid reason why you are looking to leave after 3 months)

Internal equity - What happens if my current salary is higher than others with equal or more experience?

....Will HR:

a) offer me a salary to match others with similar experience? In other words, pay cut.
b) offer what i am currently drawing (Status quo)
c) do a 5-10% markup as a gesture of goodwill

Not necessarily.

Must remember, which company you work for is equally important.

Lets say you work in a small bank with less than 50 people, vs working in Goldman Sachs.

Or you work in a local IT company doing programming vs working in Google.

Even though both companies, the job you are doing is exactly the same job

Your (future) compensation will also be different.

In other words, moving from SME to MNC, can't expect a pay increment?

Nope.

Like what i said, depends on job scope.

Are you doing exactly the same thing but only difference is in MNC?

In most SME anyway, you will be a generalist, but in a lot of MNC (at least 70%) they are specialists. Of cos also got 30% of MNC where you will be a generalist regardless of job scope.

Besides most MNC will give you a pay increment, just not that high (maybe max 15%)

TS, very appreciate you for sharing.

Can I ask lets say this person has been working for an analysis role for 1 year. Then after that jump to do sales for 3 years. The next job is also sales. So the 1 year of analysis is totally irrelevant and won't even be considered as an 'experience' at all is it?

Assuming the scope in MNC is narrower and one is overpaid in his current role in an SME. Have you encountered such cases? What's the usual outcome?

Most likely, yes.

Yes.

Outcome is the guy is better off staying in his current SME or small company.

Because most likely they cannot cope if they go to bigger companies.

I give you example, a lot of people work in offshore financial institutions in Singapore (where they have less than 50 people in Singapore but the head office is not in Singapore)

These people usually will choose to stay in their smaller companies instead of moving to a bigger company because

1) More stress
2) Longer hours
3) Most likely won't get a big increment

In this particular order

I got offered a job without a HH although he did contact me mid way through the interviews. Does he still get a fee?

If he doesn't get a fee.. Is it reasonable to ask the company (a bank) to give me 2 more months as sign on bonus since they didn't need to pay my HH?

what's the best reason you have heard for leaving a job after a relatively short stint?

1) Job mismatch - Interview and reality are 2 different things
2) No training provided even though company state that they will provide
3) Working hours stated during interview and reality

I got offered a job without a HH although he did contact me mid way through the interviews. Does he still get a fee?

The HH will only get the fee if

1) He contacted you, before you applied for any job with the company (within a 6 month period), and send your cv into the company, and you start your employment with the company. (assume all interviews go well)

As with any contract signed between the HH and the company, sign on bonuses are included in the fee to the HH.

Do note that if you already commenced interviews because of your own effort (and not thru a HH) then he won't get the fee, regardless of whether you get the job or not.

With regards to sign on bonus.

1) Depends on company policy. If company doesn't have this policy then even if you ask also they won't give
2) Comes with a 1 year bond to the company, if not you have to pay them back the same amount.

Depends on your definition of Analyst.

Analyst is also a job title in many companies.

Jobsbank
The own company's website
Jobstreet and JobsDB

How useful are referral letters written by ex-employees?

Reference letters are fine but you must be applying for a job which you have past relevant experience in.

References are no use if you are applying for a job which you have no relevant experience in.

not too sure if this has been asked before:

1) what do you think of Aspire recruiting?

2) What are the questions you should ask any recruiters when they contact you to see if they are good or just wasting your time? I normally ask what sectors/industries do they specialize in and what are some of the companies they work with to recruit. Am I missing out any other questions?
