Dear HH,

1. If I were to tender and serve my one month notice, however the last 2 weeks being reservist, will my notice be extended? I've already informed the company that for that 2 weeks I'll be on reservist.

Thanks in advance HH

Yes your notice will be extended.

To be more technical, when you are in ICT, you are being paid by the government (and not your employer) and thus it will not be counted.

2 weeks after deadline or 2 weeks after i send in application?

sorry ah, bit jumpy cos no reply...

2 weeks after you send in your application.

Dear HH,

Is it common for employer or recruitment agency to check on candidate's previous criminal records? What is the % of employer who will do this?

In which industry is this more commonly practiced?

Could you share with me a list of companies specialized in such investigations?

Thanks!

SK

Not common. Will most of the time only be done if the person is of a management or senior management level.

If it is done, it will most of the time be from the client/company side and not from agency side.

The most famous company that does this is FADB or First Advantage.

which industry a lot of contingency workers rather than permanent staff?

Supermarkets, anything related to F&B, construction, etc.

there are a few companies that provide both job placement and consultancy services.

Are they throwing smoke bomb on their consultancy services?
Is it the consultancy just getting the candidate on their payroll rather than the real hiring company?

Nope.

For example, a company like Right Management (which is a subsidiary of manpower group) provides consultancy services on how the company should operate, or retain staff thru various programs.

Or even provide training to the company.

Possible.

Few reasons i encountered recently.

1) Guy has been in company for 3 years, wife just gave birth 1 month ago, and he prefers stability.
2) Guy is due for promotion in 1 month time.
3) Guy prefers his current job scope vs his new job scope (which can be totally different)
4) New job scope is regional and he does not want to travel.

What you described is what is called a "counter offer"

And it can only happen when the employee has tendered his resignation, and typically (99% of the time) the current employer will only give him the same salary as what the new company is giving (but not more)

Hi TS, if a job states degree for a position but I do not have 1 and I'm currently studying part time for it.

However, I have the working experience.
Will I have chance generally with companies outside ?

Is asking for a 10% increment too much when you are switching jobs?

I'm paid $x amount now inclusive of AWS. Next month for the new financial year, I'll be paid $x+300. For a job offer in a place without AWS, is it ok for me to negotiate (x+300)*13/12 +10% ? To account for non aws.

As long as you have the relevant work experience generally you should be fine

If your work experience not relevant to the job then the degree comes Into the picture

Depends on what job you apply for and whether your past work experience is relevant to your new job you applying for

If it is relevant can ask for more if totally not relevant they might even ask you move on same salary after aws

Hi TS, I'm in banking sector. HH had called me up and arranged for interviews. Attended interviews with the segment head and HR. The bank offered me the proposed package in subsequent phone call (all communication done via HH)

My question is, the interviews and package offer were done in Dec'14. It's been 6 weeks and my HH keeps following up with the bank but says the approval process takes time (local office has to seek the approval from HQ)

1. Should I be more patient and wait?
2. Is the HH smoking me?

I guess the bank is a small foreign bank?

If so then yes it is common to wait one month or more for the offer to be approved

If they have more than 1000 people in singapore then it is not common

Head hunter,

Recently I went to an first interview with the hiring manager and heard from them I did quite well thus leading to a 2nd interview.

The second interview was with talent management manager who ask my previous package and all my preciova job scope in detail lasting one hour.

My question is the sequence feel strange. I though is hr first then hiring manager. Is there any difference between hr and talent management? during first interview we did not talk about salary. 2nd interview thEre are no salary negnegotiations.

Also I though talent management manager only develop existing employee career growth.

Why huh?

1) Depends on company. Because sometimes the HR does not know the industry well enough, or the actual job well enough. Therefore need the hiring manager's expertise in deciding who is better in terms of technical skills

2) Talent management or talent acquisition, is the HR arm of the company, solely devoted to recruitment, and in some cases, staff retention and nothing else.

They don't do payroll, benefits structuring, learning and development, and other HR functions

So do you think I stand a chance?

So do you think I stand a chance?

1) Any role if you get to meet the talent acquisition manager means got chance

2) The talent acquisition manager is different from a normal HR manager in most companies (but not all). they will have a say on who gets hired (aka: Even if the line manager loves you, but the TA manager hates you, you will not get offered the role)

Which is why any interview with a TA manager is as critical, if not more important than the interview with the line manager. It also depends on who the TA manager likes among all the candidates
