If you have already left the previous company, the HR will do the background check, and it will entail them either

1) Calling your past supervisor (of which you have provided the person's contact)
2) Calling the HR dept directly. Do note that due to confidentiality, the HR is only able to say when you joined, when you left, and reason for leaving (Resigned, fired, retrenched, etc), and last drawn salary, nothing else.

A standard reference check entails questions, usually to do with your work performance.

Since your experience is not substantial, it is best not to lie about it, but you must also be truthful to yourself on the actual reason why you got fired,

because even if the company hires you, but 6 months later found out that you got fired (and you lied), the company has a right to terminate your employment with them, even if you have passed your probation. (It has happened before in some companies, where people lied that they were bankrupt, they had a criminal record, etc)

currently for IT, the norm seems to be for
1) people with good certifications (think CCIE, PMP, etc)

it also seems like program managers are in big demand (one level higher than project managers). program managers are basically people who can manage multiple projects, most likely across multiple regions, at the same time.

Not sure on which companies are good for IT though

Not sure if this qn has been asked before but is it possible for employers to check on detailed full job history if I hide one of my employment?

Reason for me asking this is cos I'm 2 mths in my new job with I have little to no prior experience in but they have unrealistic expectations of what is required of me even though I have already shown my hard work and dedication..I'm thinking of leaving this job out of my CV..which means if I were to resign now..The gap will be 3 mths from my previous employment..and I was given a recommendation from my previous employer so I figured the whole situation will look more favourable compared to leaving this current job after a yr or 2 which will again make me look like a job hopper and reflect badly on me.

Any advices?

my brain kind of freezed at that time, it was supposed to be quite basic technical questions.

it is been few days and still haven't heard back from them.
it was 2nd interview for bulge IB for software developer position.

Depends on what type of project management, but always a demand for them. Once you progress further there is such a thing called programme manager (being able to manage multiple projects at the same time, probably multiple regional projects as well)

As you probably can guess, these levels means much higher level of pay and responsibilities.

Well if you screw up during an interview then that's it (cos in many times you only have one chance to impress them)

Well turns out i passed the interview and they decided to offer me (verbally).
Now the recruiter said that he is trying to get the offer approved (last Friday) and hasn't get back to me since.

Is this normal that it take so long? Usually the offer process is quite fast from my previous experiences.

And what should be my negotiation strategy, i meant is it a norm to negotiate in IT banking industry?

Right now I am searching for jobs related to automation system without having relevant experience.

Questions:
1) Will the prospective employer perceive me as a job hopper?
Quitting job after 6 months is certainly not looking too good to my resume but I am taking the risk.
2) What is your opinion on automation system industry?

I have a master's in econs but it's not from a tier1 uni, and my work exp is 1-2 years in IT rather than finance. Coursework experience in using R, C#, matlab, stata. very econometrics-heavy but it wasn't a full-blown fineng course.

What are my odds? Where should I be looking? How can I certify/prove my technical skills? I can't build up experience with a bloomberg terminal without access to a bloomberg terminal. I'm open to interning for a bit, but I'm not sure where to look.

I see a lot of quant roles ads that ask for a phd just to start in model validation, that seems very demanding, are those ads just exaggerating?

Looking for my first Job. i am looking for a job that is related to the part-time degree i am taking next year July so as to gain experience and expose my-self to the industry. This field have nothing to do with what i study for my Diploma. So it is quite hard to find the job.

The main question is, is it ok/worth to take up a 1 year contract job offering 1.8-1.9 with 1 month bonus after the contract. It is a Jap MNC as recommended my job sourcing agent or do you think i should take up a perm role instead. Its quite difficult to find as my diploma does not have anything to do with the job i am looking for.

No they are not exaggerating. I have hired for companies who specifically asked for PHD holders to do model validation.

Odds are not good, best bet is either to take up an internship (and hope to get converted to permanent) or take up a contract job, or to apply for a job within finance industry with lesser requirements.

Relevant experience is more important to start off with, rather than whether it is a contract or a permanent job.

If the role with the Japan MNC is what you are looking for in terms of the role you ideally want to work in, then no harm taking it up and trying to learn as much as possible.

Who knows, if you do well you might be converted to permanent

Also, for banking industry as a fresh grad, is pfc a good position to start with? Heard from a friend that more than 70% cant hit the threshold amount.
