Hi,

I need some help and advice with setting up my sound system.

My equipment list is as follows:

1) Yamaha RX-600 AVR
2) Toshiba 50L4300 LED TV
3) Chromecast (plugged into (2))
4) XBOX 360
5) Blu-Ray Player (coming soon)

Additional notes:

Due to (3), there is a need for an audio out from the TV to the AVR. Unfortunately I only have Component out for my TV (no Optical, no HDMI w/ARC). I tried to hook up the Chromecast directly to the AVR as an input and connect the AVR to the TV via an HDMI, but apparently the system does not register the Chromecast that way (unable to link up to network).

Question: Without an optical out, will it adversely affect the quality of the audio, considering that the video streams are HD? I read that it is more desirable to transmit audio signals via Optical or HDMI.

I can see you are trying to stream your downloaded video contents. Correct me if i am wrong.

If you doing downloaded video contents streaming, maybe we shall start from original signal source first. The downloaded video contents has 5.1ch Surround format such as DTS or Dolby Digital? If the contents is in 2-channel PCM type, then need not worry the difference between RCA Audio output option or Digital Audio Output option.

i juz bought the entry level rxv375 receiver and can't seem to able output of sound from tv. i put all my devices to the receiver hdmi inputs and connect a hdmi from its hdmi output to tv's hdmi (arc) input which is number 3. all devices able to work (i.e. sound able to come out through receiver) but not tv's.

my tv is connected with an indoor antenna and plug into tv's antenna connection. so when i on the tv,to watch tv i need to choose tv's source as tv and not hdmi '3' as compared to other devices and therefore no sound output from receiver. is ARC not supposed to work for tv in this way?

only way i can output sound from tv is to connect optical cable from tv to a free optical input at the receiver. is this normal? I wanna have tv sound to be output via receiver without optical digital cable,any workaround?

edit: problem solved,need to use an arc certified hdmi cable to get the job done.always thought arc certified,3d certified in hdmi is juz marketing gimmicks but i was wrong.

Sorry for late response.

Yes you were right about the HDMI Cables compatibility. Also sometimes such issues arise from TV HDMI ARC Settings too.

is yamaha manning this thread at all?

I set my bluray player to bitstream with my avr rxv375. i played a bluray with dolby true hd format and display on the avr shows dolby true hd but when playing bluray with dts hd audio master...display on avr only shows DTS.

called your service centre and realised u guys do not has a dedicated call centre setup. your technician told me all your sets will play dts hd master audio but will not decode them, i should let my blu ray player decode dts hd master audio then the display will show dts hd audio master.

he said yamaha set will only decode dolby true hd so that's why i was able to see dolby true hd at my avr display. is that true?

Go to this link here.
This is RX-V375 Owner's Manual. Refer Page 33. It will show you how to check your Signal Info. Look for Audio Decoder. (Be sure you are playing back your Blu-Ray Disc before you start doing this). The Info panel will shows you the audio decoder info such as which format you are playing instantly. If you see DTS-HD Master Audio, means you are at the right audio format.

If you see a Yamaha product shows you a DTS-HD logo, means this model of product supports decoding of DTS-HD Master Audio and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio formats. Usually, Yamaha will be very careful with such information on product informations. Our Yamaha web page information mostly is done up by Japan. So you can be sure you are buying a DTS-HD Built-In Decoder product.

There is a way of how to make the DTS-HD words come out and appear in your front panel lcd display. But i couldn't remember the steps now.

Still, i hope the Info of Audio Decoder is a useful tools to you. You could even check your video signal info there.

I have bought a DSP YSP-4300 few months ago and I had found wireless sub-woofer having intermittent connectivity issue. I had tried to switch other channels but still the same.

as i was staying in the states for quite some time, i bought myself a rx v773 from states. I am currently intending to use it with a stepdown voltage transformer as the set is a 110V. I am wondering if yamaha provides service to change the PSU internally to a 220V for Singapore use?

Hi Joe,

This combination should works fine. The AVR will do decoding job and you don't need BD Player to decode.
RX-A830 has officially discontinued. We are expecting new model RX-A840 to launch soon in next one to two months. For price point of RX-A840 is not fixed, but we should be looking at same price of RX-A830 at $1499.
NS-PA160 is retail at $399. (W/o Subwoofer)

I do have 2 other problems / questions though:

1) Can I just plug in a random WiFi dongle into the AV Receiver to connect to a network?

2) When I play a random movie (say downloaded), is it normal that the sound channels are not "normalized"? As in, what I got is the vocals being really soft from the Center speaker but the sound effects are booming from FL and FR speakers. I've tried to raise the levels of the Center speaker on the AV R but it's quite a pain to be manually doing such tweaks for every different movie.

Ans: If your content is DTS in 5.1 or Dolby Digital 5.1, you will need Optical or HDMI or Coaxial to do bitstream output to AVR to do decoding.
If your content is 2-ch signal source, then Analog Audio (RCA Red & White) can do the job.

Ans: No. AV Receiver is not a PC and it wont be able to detect USB type and auto install whichever USB device it is. It is only meant for USB Storage and Compatible for iOS products.

As in, what I got is the vocals being really soft from the Center speaker but the sound effects are booming from FL and FR speakers. I've tried to raise the levels of the Center speaker on the AV R but it's quite a pain to be manually doing such tweaks for every different movie.

Ans: Every movie tracks (Be it whether it is downloaded or DVD or Blu-ray disc) has different audio recording level. If your center is soft most of the time, try lifting up the Center Channel Level might helps. If particularly one movie is too soft, this movie audio recording is very poor.

Yes. NS-P40 is a 5.1 Speaker Package at $569. NS-PA120 is bundled with AV Receiver to sell as a package, hence we do not have stock at the moment.
