OK, but that’s why I used the word “fairly.” Many companies with stocks listed on the SGX have gone bankrupt and wiped out shareholders, and many more have nearly wiped out shareholders. That’s also why there’s a sublimit, a crude guardrail.

Astrea 8 securities will be listed on the SGX, or at least that’s the plan.
guard rail requires cost. why does azalea want to pay for it?

yes it is going to be listed on the sgx. the trading volume on sgx will be very low. using cpf funds will even be lower. what is the point of getting it approved if there are very few people of using it to buy their bond

Nah. If your timing bad , and you suddenly need money when the market is down then you don't liquidate?
Wait for it to recover, cos it surely will?
That is exactly what it is.*

* Your own holding power is your own holding power. Do your own homework on how much you are prepared to invest.
i.e. you invest 100% of your money and suddenly you need money and you need to liquidate for unforeseen circumstances and you lose money, dont come and blame me.

just based on 1 yr performance is kind of shortsighted
who knows those investments in 2023 start generating 20% returns in 2024?
i'm sure temasek have their methods of grading these fund managers

I didn't suggest they would or should. I was only responding to the poster who wanted to ascribe some sort of quality (negative presumably) to these Astrea 8 securities based on their lack of inclusion in the CPF Investment Scheme (OA). I replied that you shouldn't infer anything, pro or con, based on that detail. There are plenty of choices available within the CPF Investment Scheme (OA) that are "fairly crazy," and there are other choices that are higher quality (Singapore Government Securities, for example).

You really don't have to look for "smoke signals" here. Just carefully read the disclosure documents. They describe the myriad risks involved with these securities.

As mentioned, I currently have no suggestions for the issuer.

S&P500 has far outperformed TH on nearly all time frames, even if the time frame is "long run" like 20 years. Anyway this is way off topic...

those subscribing to SSB should consider swap some with this.

No/low risk is not always the better ones.

understand that we may not get the full allocation of what applied. how would we know how much we applied for get allocated?

if i applied 10k, and only get 5k allocation, how would the remaining be refund to me and how fast?

For A-1 Bonds, the mandatory call date is 19 July 2029, at end of Year 5, if conditions are met. How do we know that whether Astrea would confirm call back the funds on 19 July 2029?

Would there be any notification or media release by Astrea?

can only rely on track records.
Astrea Bonds have consistently demonstrated a dependable history of meeting redemption obligations:
  • Astrea III (2016), Astrea IV (2018), and Astrea V (2019) were all redeemed on their respective callable dates.

for Astrea 8 SGD 1st callable is 5 years. if not called, step up 1% in coupon, till year 15
The Class A-1 bonds have an interest rate of 4.35% p.a., a semi-annual interest payment, and a Mandatory Call scheduled for July 2029, contingent upon meeting specific conditions. If these bonds are not called, the coupon rates will increase by 1.0% per annum just once.

for Astrea 8 USD 1st callable is 6 years. if not called, step up 1% in coupon, till year 15
Pending certain conditions, the Class A-2 bonds have an interest rate of 6.35% p.a., a semi-annual interest payment and are scheduled for a Mandatory Call in July 2030. If these bonds are not called, the coupon rates will increase by 1.0% per annum just once.
  • if economic conditions then is low borrowing rates (in year 5 and 6) which means your FDs are all in the lower regions like pre covid days, then likely they will be quite dumb not to call back these bonds and release new ones at lower coupons.
  • if economic conditions then is higher borrowing rates, will your FDs and such pay you more than 5% for SGD or 7% for USD?
  • anyways you know astrea retails bonds can be publicly traded in the secondary market right?

SGX trading volume for bonds are pathetic if you take a look. Can be traded and if there are buyers or at competitive price is big difference.

Historically from 4 till 7, application > 10k but < 50k, the allocation rate is about 50%. So just use tat as a guide.

As I've mentioned in the Astrea thread, Astrea VI is my current favourite of the Astrea series and I have been accumulating whenever there is an opportunity to do so. It is safer than Astrea VII (closer maturity date, larger reserves accumulated, 3% coupon means not as much payment 'burden' on Astrea, yet it has higher YTM than Astrea VII. Rated by S&P & Fitch as A+(sf)

I had no problem accumulating Astrea bonds on the secondary market. Like I mentioned elsewhere, 5% yield for class A-1 S$ and at that time the reserves account was almost filled up. Nowhere else could you get that sort of S$ yield for A+ security, which frankly, should be AA+ as the reserves account continued to fill up.

Used to do this with SCB unfortunately now they do not accept any more in the platform. I don't like FSM charging platform and other fee right? How much is the charge now for Bond Express?

I already have a poems account so thinking of using it if I want to buy A8 on secondary market.

POEMS must declare AI and buy the full lot of 250k right? Or their Stock platform allow you to buy/sell as secondary market?

Well, I mean, obviously the principal plus interest will appear in your bank account on that date, if it is called. Before that, Astrea will also make the standard SGX announcements. Even CDP will also notify you. Do you need a media release?
