I think i found the solution for countering whatsapp's ineffectiveness after a padstation switch (is that after the switch from tablet to phone, whatsapp will not work until you activate it once)
*enabling pop-up in Whatsapp does not counter the above problem*

You need to go setting->asus specific setting->dynamic display switch list-> tick the app (like whatsapp or custom launcher) so that it will not be killed when tablet is switched to phone.

I did not experiment enough to be certain but in theory, it should.

Anyone knows if it's recommended charge both the Padfone 2 and Padfone 2 Station together via that one charger they supplied with?

previously in the thread oso got someone query abt apps closing when u plug in phone into tablet. jus go under settings > asus customized setting > dynamic display switch list > turn 'keep all applications alive' to 'ON' worked for me for all apps i used :s13:

anw got any bros out here encounter charging problem with padfone 2?? mine takes forever to charge. and once i was playing 'scramble with friends' with the power jack plugged in, my phone actually registered a drop of 2% after abt 30 mins of playing.

1) Yes, for all the actions listed.
For phone calls, if the phone is in the station, you can answer using the station( it will be through loudspeaker, i tested in a quiet room, the pick up is clear) or you can set in the settings that once you remove the phone, the call will be answered automatically:)

2) Data transition from phone to tablet also include apps? ( i don't understand this question, pls rephrase again)
But, i can say that some apps like the Asus inbuilt video player can transit while the video is playing.. for other apps, after the switch, the app gets killed although i already enable all apps alive in the dynamic display switch settings

Display set i think all starhub shops will have..

There is an ongoing roadshow : https://www.facebook.com/asus.sg?ref=stream

Think I will really consider this.

That depends on the app itself, not the padfone problem or any tablet / phone problem (not hardware problem).

Almost all google apps like youtube, gmail, map etc have both phone and tablet layout. So they will switch accordingly.

As for apps that don have tablet layout(like whatsapp, etc), they will still run when docked in the tablet. But it will be like an enlarged phone app.

So in short, all phone apps are able to display when docked in tablet, but the other way round is not true. Apps designed for the tablet only will not display on phone, but don need to worry, as these kind of apps are few.

So it depends on the app itself, you can ask about those apps that u use often whether they are compatible and the bros here will help to test:)

so far, those of u who've had ur padfone2, any typical advantage over, say, using a hp and a separate 10" tablet? i really like the padfone but comtemplating whether to get the bundle or just the fone since i might be getting a nexus 10 tablet. does the hp really gets warm after using the cam panorama functions? any other apps that makes it warm (maybe graphics intensive games/high res vids etc). TIA!

1) 1 sim card is enough, don need to tether:)

2) Data consistancy - you don need to maintain different sets of data.

But since you wanna get the nexus 10, why don u get a nexus 4?

Or wait for a LTE nexus 4 if you are solely getting the padfone's fone for the LTE advantage over the nexus 4.

Just now i was multitasking - installing apps and setting up apps that are downloaded ( setting up phone actually) and it was quite warm.
but that is expected because the chip is running at 1.5Ghz.
Speed is linked with heat. Of cos the way they design for heat spreading plays a part.

As for the nexus 10, i think the GPU is not enough to handle the high res especially for graphics intensive games. So up to you to decide.

I know the padstation low res might turn some ppl off, but there is always a give and take in life.

cos i dun like the idea of the glass back of the nexus 4. :s13: but yeah, im considering whether to get a nexus 4 and nexus 10 or buy a padfone 2 bundle. apparently padfone 2 batt also lasts quite a lot longer than nexus 4 w/o the tablet. actually inclining towards padfone for hp also bcos the capacity of the hp is larger. 16gb on the nexus 4 abit too little for me. :/ but nexus devices have faster updates/supports for sure.

also bcos if 2 separate devices, in the event i dun brg my tablet out, i can leave it at home and others (e.g my parents) can get to use it. better than leaving an empty "tablet" screen at home which cant be used.

any news of unlocking/rooting padfone 2 yet?

Just the phone side I believe PadFone 2 will beat down Nexus 4 no contest... But on the tablet side... Well I always tell people that they should see the dock station as more of an expansion accessory rather than an actual tablet. You should go take a look at the actual set at starhub or the roadshow before deciding. And yup it does get a little warm from using the camera app.

Personal review of the Padfone 2 after one day of usage.

Things I like and love about the Padfone 2.
Battery life
Battery life has been one of the greatest and most common concerns amongst us smartphone users. I could get through 3/4 of a day of heavy usage. (My phone was in the Padfone 2 Station most of the times so the tablet mihtve burned up most of my battery, but I'll talk more about that later.) My usage pattern is mostly whatsapp and SMS for today. I also did a bit of YouTube and about 1/4 of my time browsing the web. I had 3G turned on most of the times as the reception for Wifi was weak at my area. (I'll go more into that later as well.)

Having the best if both worlds
Need I say more? Having a phone with a gorgeous HD display and then docking the phone into the Padfone 2 station to instantly share information without straining either party's eyes is definitely a plus to this.

Android 4.0
Nuff said, Android 4.0 is quite smooth as compared to other phones. (I had a friend who bought an iPhone 5 and is now considering trading it up for the Padfone 2. Hahaha) :p
Now we go on to the bad part...

Questionable battery life
I gotta admit, I can't complain much as the phone was docked most of the times to serve as a tablet. And there was one moment where I had to charge my Padfone 2 station from 20% to ~60% (Phone was at ~80% at the time when I was charging my station.) And I returned home after 4 hours with both reaching ~40%, can't remember the exact figures. My usage from when I unplugged was a bit of YouTube, Google Navigation, surfing the Web, all under an hour. So yeah.. Usage might vary.

The dreaded 13 pin(was I right?) Asus customized microUSB port.
Though Asus had mentioned this before, but I feel that this is a point worth mentioning. The port fits the 13 pin customized pin very well, but not with normal microUSB cables. I was charging my phone just now and the cable came loose while I was moving it. Charging it on the go isn't exactly what you want to do.

Google Maps Navigation in Tablet mode
One problem I had with the Navigation is that, while I was playing around with the Navigation with my friend driving, I couldn't seem to get a GPS lock with the phone docked into the station, but I was able to get a GPS lock 5 seconds after I removed it from the station. Though I know it would seem retarded and stupid to use a 10 inch tablet as a navigation device, but if I couldn't get a GPS lock on the Padfone 2 Station, it is probably some hardware fault.

Wifi signal is pretty weak
I wonder if others are suffering the same fate as me, but as what I could previously acquire on my One X, isn't the same for the Padfone 2. Example: Me sitting in my living room and I will get full bar Wifi signal, but on the Padfone 2, it's only 2/3, of the bars filled.
Example 2: My One X usually has no problems and always giving me at least 2/3 of the signal when connecting to my school's Wifi, even at the deepest part of the room. But with the Padfone 2, even at the best part of the room for our Wifi to connect, I only get 0/1 bar maximum. Sometimes it will just automatically cut me off the Wifi network. Wonder how 5he others fared.
