For RT-AX82U, dqf3c.sg (China) on Shopee is selling at S$269.80 only.
Is it legit/genuine?
The comments seem fine, but the deal is too good to be true?

No idea about this shop. But Courts previously has better promotion than this price for RT-AX82U local version.

Courts have very good deal for RT-AX86U special edition now at around S$330+. That is a much better buy.

From the RT-AX86U/RT-AX82U thread.

Best promotion from Courts June 2021 promotion (page 50 of the RT-AX86U/RT-AX82U thread)

RT-AX86U Gundam version at S$312.20 [S$419 - S$90 (22% off cap at S$90) - S$16.80 = 312.20]

RT-AX82U normal edition at around S$239.82 [S$329 - S$72.38 (22% off) -S$16.80 = S$239.82]

I have space constraint that I can only go for AX58U or max AX82U.
So I won't go for this Court's 86U, as it is too big to fit my current space for the router.

I am not sure if I want to take the risk to buy AX82U (S$269.80) from the dqf3c.sg (China) on Shopee.
Most of the previous buyers commented the purchase works well. But I am still a little worried.

I will not comment on a particular shop. However, you need to check your space constraints. RT-AX86U occupies more vertical space but less horizontal space than RT-AX82U or RT-AX58U. So to some users they can fit RT-AX86U but not RT-AX82U.

And it is always better put the router on an open space and higher position. When you say you have space constraints, most liKely you are not placing the wireless router in the more optimal place.

You are absolutely right about my situation that my space doesn't optimize for the router placement. It is hiding beneath my TV in the TV console. For me, I can bear with the less ideal performance, but I need to keep it there.

I have the horizontal space, but not the vertical space. Hence the AX86U can't fit in. Nevertheless, you have a great recommendation. I really appreciate that, Xiaofan. Thank you very much!

There is another thread about RT-AX56U and RT-AX55, both are rated at AX1800. RT-AX55 is more suitable to be an AP as it only has 256MB RAM and it does not have a USB port. RT-AX56U is not bad as a router as it has the similar CPU (BCM6755, quad core Arm Cortex A7 1.5GHz) and the same amount (512MB) as the bigger brother RT-AX82U and RT-AX58U (BCM6750, tri-core Arm Cortex A7 1.5GHz, 512MB RAM).

Probably this thread can be the consolidated thread. So I changed the title.

RT-AX82U should probably more discussed in the other more popular thread together with RT-AX86U.

RT-AX88U has its own popular thread here.

Apparently there is another (newer?) version of the RT-AX58U called RT-AX58U V2. Not sure if this is being sold in Singapore, but there is no support for the Merlin firmware (and apparently no plans to add support)

(I can't post a link, but it is in the Asuswrt-Merlin 386.4 beta thread in snbforums)

Thanks for the headsup. The link is here (Post #13 and #15).

However there seems to be no info yet about the new version. Probably no need to worry now.

Merlin does not support RT-AX82U and that is the really strange thing.

BTW the RT-AX55 is also not supported by Merlin FW. Confusingly the China version of RT-AX56U V2 is not the same as RT-AX56U here at all, rather it is basically the same as RT-AX55.

Google found this one, not so sure whether the info is corrects or not. The look is totally different from the RT-AX58U sold here, so no need to worry for now.

Could be that the user base for AX55 is too small and not powerful enough to really make use of the Merlin features (128 flash, 256 RAM, no USB) which means some things like diversion are automatically out.

I don't think there was ever a clarification about why AX82U is not supported. Meanwhile, there is a fork of the Merlin firmware by gnuton that works for the AX82U, but is still in alpha because it has some significant bugs that need to be fixed.

Hopefully the new v2 really looks different, if not it will be very confusing for new buyers...

Just gotten the RT-AX55 with new M1 sign up.

Compared to RT-AC88U, AX55 wins only by having WIFI6??

That is correct. RT-AC88U is a high end Wifi 5 router. RT-AX55 is the lowest end Wifi 6 router from Asus.

On the other hand, quite some people have issues with RT-AC88U (HW quality issues, some after the 3 years waranty period) . RT-AX55 seems to be okay.

I have been using AC88U for the past 4 (?) years and running strong. Initially, did face 5GHz dropping intermittently, other than this, no complaints.

Hopefully can grind for few more years but also means that wasting the 3 year local warranty of the AX55..

🤣

You can either set the RT-AX55 as a AImesh node or just sell it away for around S$100 to S$110 in Carousell.

For general use, yes, but if you have specific needs, or your environment has a lot of RF obstructions (floor plan will help to figure this out), then you may need to evaluate another model/setup.

these are summarised in the first few posts in this thread

Hello experts, may I check what’s the optimal wireless setting for ax58u to achieve high throughput as I’m only able to achieve 200mbps in my room which is only one wall away from the router using a combination of wifi 5/6 devices.

I have tried changing the channels around and even those in dfs which are free from other ap are giving me similar result. I have also ascertain it’s not a wired issue as I’m able to achieve over 900mbps over ethernet cable.

Qos is switched off while ai protection and traffic analyser is turned on if it matters.

TIA for the assistance!
