Hi All,

I'm torn in between of selecting a gaming laptop between these three brands.

Asus - G750JX
MSI - GT70-20C
Aftershock - X17S

All model contains i7-4700 with GTX770m and 8gb ram. What I'm particular about is their respective cooling system with the fan noise. Anyone out there can advise the pros and cons of each models? And also the cost:performance ratio; noting that G750jx is the cheapest while MSI is the highest.

Thanks all.

Looking at reviews online, I think Asus and Aftershock are better in terms of cooling. The Asus model is heavier as you have pointed out.

Thanks. Think im gonna go for aftershock. test the local product.

Good choice, furthermore they are having fantastic promo now. Got my Xg 13 from them previously and never regret with the excellent performance and their wonderful after sales service... =]

I was using the MSI GT70-20C , I liked it.
Being a moderate gamer I did play Crysis 2 , MoH Warfighter , Simcity 2013.All games run pretty well at high setting.I dint benchmark the frame rates or such. But the graphics are pretty good.

The advantages i would say MSI has over Asus is better in built speakers, better HDD (7200rpm) in default bundle , NOS feature , Super Raid 2 (if you want to pimp it in future) , Killer Wireless card (its good to have, always gave good signal)

Advantage Asus has over MSI is more sturdy build (not that the MSI is bad build but it does have flex at some corners if you care to notice ) , cheaper (i guess since base comes with 5400RPM HDD) , Some places i read it as Wireiess AC support (which is good if you have same router and download off the laptop)

Basically the difference are pretty close , i wouldnt care much of Raid 2 support as i wouldn't spend much for 3 ssd.

Hence the selection between these two models can be based on the look and feel.

I did checkout Aftershock @ Expo , basically its a good machine ... but I dint like the final build finish much back then. I did notice a few posts on facebook from Aftershock showcasing their custom carbon casing.
As far as i have read about Sager they are bound to be good if you are looking for pure gaming top line config.

But if budget is just about 2k then Asus should be a good enough choice for gaming at medium to high settings without AA. Asus with SSD and full RAM does seem to be good config to hold until 2017

I'm big fan of Asus, but =X if you asked me to choose above 3 Brands, i will go for Aftershock, based on several website and review on the P170SM Clevo Chassic, the cooling is above standard. And services is also there~~ 24/7 online support(when they notice your message).

Audio might not as good as DynAudio but Onkyo won't that bad~ it is still above standard. Anywhere most of us uses headset when it come to FPS Gaming.

MSI got ton of features~ that i fall for it (Killer double-shot, NOS, Super Raid and Cooler Boost), these advantage actually not really helping. As far as i know if you are going for desktop replacement, usually you will connect LAN to your computer, you hardly see much different in real-time latency when you play games.

Well all is theoretical :s13: i never test all the model before, beside i'm saving to get a GTX780M notebook, :X so far i only look at these three model.
MSI GT70 Dragon(Without SSD)
Asus G750JH (Not JX, JH in another hand the design below the notebook is totally different)
Aftershock X17S (They offer more color for finishing)

Yeah, thinking of getting those models with GTX780m but the price different between 770 and 780 is quite a jump... Is it really worth it? I know msi and asus are whopping above 3k in price so and x17s is 3k...

I believe they will try to do so if possible, maybe if you are not in the hurry to get a notebook. Can wait for it...

May not be so easy to find after 1 year cos the new stuff replaces the old ones on the shelf very fast. It's like now if you want to buy PC with windows 7 rather than Windows 8 good luck trying to find...

Suggest you to look for PC Dreams, they always got awesome deals after 1 year. (If they have stock with them)

Few cents worth:

1. Have used Aftershock X15S with 770m for 1 mth, great cooling system. Have never encountered a warm palm rest before, even when I play games on ultra setting. Cooling is important on a gaming laptop. My opinion is that slim form laptops will not beat full size laptops in terms of cooling simply because of the architecture.

2. boils down to what kind of a gamer you are. if you are semi-pro or hardcore gamer, then 780m. by hardcore gamer i mean you don't play professionally but you play everyday. you chat with your friends about game strategy, you play alot of online matches with other humans, you think about how to improve your game, etc.
I am NOT a hardcore gamer. I game because it's fun and it helps me pass time during my off days. I usually play FPS or RTS and usually the single player campaigns only. I play Battlefield 3, Company of Heroes 1 and 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops, Total War: Shogun 2. I seldom play multiplayer games.
I cannot tell the difference between the frames per second between the graphic cards. All I need is that I can play a game with medium to high settings with no discernible lag. And 770m handles all the games I play perfectly.
Also I didn't want to just get the 765m because it is a mid-range graphics card and I wanted to future proof my laptop a little. The reason why I got a new laptop was because my old laptop couldn't play the newer games. And my old laptop was an 8 year old Asus.

3. Aftershock X15S has DVD drive, GS70 doesn't. Important to me as all my old games were installed using CDs and I want the option to watch DVDs occassionally.

4. Aftershock X15S has a myriad of customisation options. I went with a 1TB hybrid SSD + Hard disk drive. Plus the Aftershock X15S has an additional HDD and mSATA slot (Total 2 HDD and 1 mSata) for future add-ons.

5. Aftershock X15S has an amazing matt screen. Very good colour reproduction. You can go down to the Aftershock showroom to see it live.

Cons for Aftershock X15S

1. The system is heavy. When I collected it I was abit taken aback by the weight. BUT to be fair, it was my first time owning a 15.6" laptop. My previous laptops were all 14" so I am not used to it.

2. The power adapter is huge and heavy. Quite understandable coz it's such a powerful machine.

3. Battery life may not be as good as the GS70. But my laptop is plugged in all the time and I seldom bring it out. Battery life also strongly depends on how you use the laptop.

4. Some may find the Aftershock abit drab-looking. GS70 is no doubt beautiful. But it's a slim form laptop, of course it looks sleek. I personally like how the Aftershock looks! It's very utilitarian looking and it definitely feels tough and well-made. Plus Aftershock can do a wrap for you to spruce up how it looks.

All the above are just my personal opinions. I am not a pro.

:s13: It took me a long time at first, when time passes my vision is clearer.

I'm a hardcore gamer, i played not simply because of fun. I will always head on to compete with other in FPS game. Even i'm not those professional out there. So for me, FramePS is very vital, my current machine only will get 60FPS when everything set to low, and the 60 is not constantly it jump from the range of 20~60. And the notebook heat up to 100C in CPU and 90C in GPU.

I narrow down a lot of machine, go from forum to forum. Until i find my goal. GTX780M is the best on our current market, and from what i see Asus G750-JH is by far the best cooling system, but it come with a very expensive Spec. I don't really need a SSD, myself~ so for budget but High End Spec~ i choose X15S, the cooling is not as good as the G750JH, but close to it.

As long as the notebook is capped at Max 85C~92C that can run 8hours daily~ of gaming. I'm satisfied
