Hi guys, i am in the market for a new laptop.

Went to funan center today and I am not deciding between

msi gs60 2Pc ghost - 2199
intel core i7-4710hq
16gb ram
nvidia gtx 850m 2gb
1tb hdd
15.6 led blacklit display

asus g56jk - 1698
intel core i7-4710hq
8gb
1tb hdd
nvidia gtx 850m 4gb ddr3
15.6 full hd non glare led display

these are the two options i am choosing between. I know the msi is more expensive because of the better specs. I am comfortable with both specs. I would like to hear more from different opinions as to which would you choose.

In addition, my research seems to point to msi overheating alot, the asus is does not overheat as much. Is this true? Any msi users face overheating issues? Or rather just cooling issues?

The asus is also slightly heavier at 2.7kg while the msi is around 1.7/1.9. I game quite alot but also carry my laptop around alot for work.

I would greatly appreciate any feedback! Other laptop recommendations are welcomed too! Thanks in advance!

Both gpu are equally crappy, i suggest u look for at least GTX 860. Ignore cpu and rams, as it isnt that impt... 8gb ram minimum is more than enough.

quite hard to find 860m around the 1k+ 2k range. only one i can think of is maybe can look at lenovo y50? or just go for aftershock. can customize ur own specs

You can try... But if u r paying that kind of money at getting GTX 850, then you might as well burn it... lol... ALso do take note whether its GDDR3 or GDDR5. The latter is better. High VRAM is useless, 2GB is enough le.

Yeap this.. from what i heard if you are playing alot of screens then you need more then 2gb vram if not 2gb is enough for 1 screen and Go for GDDR5... GDDR3 not worth the money at all idk why asus is doing this but.. i will not go for asus laptops.

thanks for the feedback guys.

Money is not an issue here. I would mind paying more for something better. However, the games i play are dota/lol/hearthstone. These are pretty low end games and do not require a really powerful top shelf machine. I do multi task alot so i want a machine to be able to handle the multiple programs i will be running simultaneosly

My main concerns are the cooling system and weight right now

if thats what u play those then just any ultra book will do. any new laptop can run those games that u mentioned. multi tasking mainly requires ram. so look for at least 8gb of ram better if 12 or 16gb.

really meh?

yeah haha u can watch some reviews on youtube. under those 3d mark benchmark tests the cpu got up to almost 100 degrees around high 90s range. gpu still ok 80++ degrees.
even the x7v2 cpu also tend to overheat. looks like aorus have cpu overheating issues.

The MSI GS60 with GTX850 is also DDR3 graphics.
For value for money, Lenovo is a good choice. :)

For Asus, the GX500 (slim model) is coming out end of November, if you can wait.

yeah haha not sure about the blade though. should wait till broadwell/skylake before buying. the new chips have less overheating issues compared to haswell

What about the Asus ROG G551jm? It has 2GB DDR5 and GTX860M. Reasonable price too, the only bad thing is that its release date hasn't been confirmed in SG, i have asked asus SG and their official Facebook and they still have not released anything. SITEX 2014 is the last BIG it fair for 2014 and I don't want to have to wait until next year to buy the G551jm. Anyone got news on a estimate release date? Like December or worse, next year?

MSI for me, lightweight & portable!

If i'm not mistaken, gs60 2pc comes with IPS panel? and you can upgrade SSD or raid in the future :)

would take msi over asus for laptop anyday. they always update their design/model quickly .. asus stuck with same design for quite sometime with each new model just an update on specs.

personally own a msi gs60.
