Call me biased but I do not think it is a good idea to use the combination you mentioned. In paticular, I am against using RT-BE92U as the main router.

IMHO it is pretty bad that Asus equips RT-BE92U and ZenWiFi BT10 with a lower end CPU. RT-BE92U has single 10G port and it is with less RAM (1GB) than ZenWiFi BT10 (2GB) as well.

Personally I do not like either RT-BE92U or ZenWiFi BT10 as the main router (they are fine as mesh nodes). But at least ZenWiFi BT10 is better with dual 10G ports and 2GB RAM. So I tend to think it is okay to use a two nodes ZenWiFi BT10 AImesh.

Again, this is just my personal opinion, apparently there are quite some people who like RT-BE92U as it is lowest cost WiFi 7 router from Asus with one 10G port and 6GHz band. It is also one of the free router options for M1 6Gbps plan (the other choice is TP-Link Archer BE805, which has much better HW/Wirelss spec).
Xiaofan, got a landed 2 floor, was originally thinking just get 2 bt10 and call it a day. But having seen this, what would be your other recommendation ?

Hi,

My ONT is in my DB box, hence i would definitely need a router inside the DB box. My 2 x BT10 is in other rooms and would need the wired backhaul from my DB box.

Hence i thought of just getting a decent Asus router that has 3-4 x 2.5g lan ports instead of getting 1 router + 1 switch, which would essentially cost the same of getting a better router with 3-4 x 2.5g lan ports.

Hope this clarifies!
BE88U might be the best option

It has 2x 10Gbps, one is RJ45 and the other is SFP+

SFP+, if you sign up with VQ they can provide a ONU stick that effectively does the same function as an conventional ONT.

For other 10Gbps plans, you have to get an RJ45 tranceiver for that SFP+ port to convert it to RJ45 so you get 10G RJ45 WAN + 10G RJ45 LAN port. i once borrowed a BE88U to test in my home and i used an RJ45 tranceiver from a brand called Horaco which i got for around SGD 40 from Aliexpress, it worked flawlessly

BE88U also has 4x 2.5G and 4x 1G

Only downside is that it does not have 6Ghz, which is a non-issue unless you have any Wifi 6E or Wifi 7 device near your DB box that needs super-fast Wifi (very unlikely). 6Ghz range is very short (shorter than 5Ghz) anyway

How hot does the transceiver get? Am looking for one with the newer controller Broadcom BCM84891L to minimise heat

You can still go with Asus ZenWiFi BT10 x 2 and see how it goes. Not so sure how large is your flat. You may need more nodes.

Asus ZenWiFi BQ16 is of course better as the main router, or even ROG GT-BE98, but the cost is much higher.

I didnt go to the extent of measuring the tranceiver's temperature, but it was hot to the touch (like all RJ45 transceivers) and it never disconnected, meaning that it never got to the 70 degree C shutdown temp that most transceivers have

My take is that anything with 10G ports on it (no matter RJ45 or SFP+ with RJ45 transceiver) is going to run hot as balls and draw more power. My setup as you can see in other posts here is in my living room on a side-table

The important thing is if you have to put any router or switch with 10G ports in a cabinet, please for the love of God or whatever deities you believe in, try to have some form of ventilation in it.Even a couple of fans at low-quiet RPMs on the cabinet door and panels is a major step up from absolutely zero airflow

Thanks xiaofan. I realised that the mil recon StarHub 10g and was given the HB710. Is this good enough to be the node then attach 2x bt10? Or ignore the hb710 then just use 2 bt10 (1 downstair 1 upstairs?).

or any other alternative I should be looking at to combo with the hb710?

Ignore the HB710 and try two ZenWiFi BT10 first to see how it goes.

TP-Link HB710 is using TP-Link EasyMesh technology. TP-Link EasyMesh technology not so mature yet as TP-Link Deco Mesh or Asus AImesh.

Just finished setting up my BE96U purchased from USA.

With 320mhz bandwidth used for 6ghz band, I was able to get 1452mbps download & 1201mbps upload with 1 wall between router and PC client (MSI herald BE). This is about 50-80% improvement from 6ghz speed from BE92U.

The BE96U has access to the upper spectrum of 6ghz band which is not approved by IMDA. To comply, I've manually set the control channel to 85 (lower spectrum). My BE92U now running as Access Point is using control channel 5 to avoid channel conflict.

Asus Singapore is not selling be96u model in sg. Is only the rt-be92u or rog-be98u.

Be96u is basically a detuned be98u without the 2nd 6ghz band.
icic, i wonder if it is cheaper now as the lauched price was US$700 be96u over US$300 be92u.

if you getting close to US$300 now it is really worth big upgrade

I bought the be96u from best buy at 449usd.

Compared to be98 selling at 1k sgd locally, it is around 40% cheaper :)

Yeah, the TPLINK SX105 is notorious for running hot as balls, even when compared to other 5P 10G RJ45 switches

There is a reason almost all 8P 10G RJ45 switches have active cooling built in via fans
ya, i think if put eggs on top of the switch, slowly can become cooked lol

I'd recently purchased Asus BE98 with M1 6Gbps and encountered wireless speed issue on 5Ghz-1. It always dropped to below 1 Gbps after 24 hour even I'd after rebooted the router, once rebooting it will goes back to 1.3-1.4Gbps. Does anyone encounter this issue too ?
Router was place on top of open cabinet
My 6Ghz no issue as the wireless speed is around 1.4-1.5Gbps

Interesting.

Two possibility reasons
1) Over heat -- adding a fan to see if it helps.
2) 5GHz-1 spectrum congestion (6GHz is less congested, at least for now).

I already have a fan place on top of the router. I'd done a lot of settings on 5GHz-1, control channel set to "Auto" or fixed to certain channels, issue still persist :(
Not sure whether my router is a lemon set
