I already have a fan place on top of the router. I'd done a lot of settings on 5GHz-1, control channel set to "Auto" or fixed to certain channels, issue still persist :(
Not sure whether my router is a lemon set

You can always contact Asus Singapore for help.

It is actually not a big problem as many power users set 5GHz band to 80MHz bandwidth since 160MHz channel bandwidth may not work reliably for them due to congestion or limitations due to the use of DFS channels.

i know this is a thread about router recommendations but anybody bought NICs along with their wifi 7 router purchases?

I was looking at some generic options and open to ethernet NICs that support 10GbE or 2.5 GbE Base T. I decided to move away from NICs that utilises the Intel i225, i226 and Realtek RTL8125 chipsets. Intel X550 appears overkill

Right now i am looking at the TP LINK NT521 NIC which uses the Aquantia AQC107 which honestly is not exactly flawless but seems better vs the first three chipsets i quoted.

Would like to hear some comments

For 5Gbe/10Gbe NICs, please go to this thread. In general, try to avoid AQC107 chipset, it is one of the worst in this forum.

Asus ROG GS STRIX GS-BE18000 review from Dongknows. It is said to be at about US$400, with 9 x 2.5G ports and dual band WiFi 7 BE7200.

I am considering the 华硕 RT-BE57 to use as an Aimesh node. Besides that, i don't plan to use it for anything else, at least not for the time being. Is 256mb ram really bad? How does it affect the wifi performance?

RT-BE57 is about $65 during this 8/8 sale after i applied my vouchers. Should i just skip this and get the BE58U off carousell for $90-100?

No point of getting RT-BE57 at all. 256MB RAM for WiFi 7 router is really a bad choice.

Low end Dual Band WiFi 7 router comparison from Dongknows:
Asus RT-BE58U review (single 2.5G port, BE3600), versus TP-Link Archer BE230 (dual 2.5G ports, BE3600) and Netgear RS100 (single 2.5G port, BE3600)
https://dongknows.com/asus-rt-be58u-review/

In the end, it is okay to choose either RT-BE58U (more feature rich, Asus AImesh) or TP-Link Archer BE230 (dual 2.5G ports).

Thanks xiaofan as always for the helpful info. If 256MB is bad even as an Aimesh extension, i will just try to get the BE58U from carousell. I guess the latter with 1GB ram should be good enough.

256MB RAM is okay as an AImesh node. But I still think it is not worth buying as the price difference is not that much.

In case you want to sell it next time, RT-BE58U may still command some resale value. On the other hand, it may be tough to sell the RT-BE57.

I usually change my routers when they stop working, so the resale part isn't too important. Almost all of my routers kaput after 4 to 5 years. I guess that is the average lifespan of these electronics.

From the above thread:
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/wifi-7-routers-with-high-vpn-server-speed.7087782/

Wireguard VPN Client performance (can also be the reference for Wireguard VPN Server performance) from a German Youtuber. The author mentions that Asus Wireguard VPN implementation only uses two core of the CPU and not 4-core.

Asus ROG GT-BE19000 -- 889 Mbps download, 748 Mbps upload (BCM 4916 CPU)
Asus ROG GT-BE98 -- 1058 Mbps download, 735 Mbps upload (BCM 4916 CPU)
Asus RT-BE88U -- 1134 Mbps download, 677 Mbps upload (BCM 4916 CPU)
Asus RT-BE92U -- 752 Mbps download, 503 Mbps upload (BCM6755/6754 CPU)

TP-Link Archer GE800 -- 2113 Mbps download, 1057 Mbps upload (IPQ9574 CPU)
TP-Link Archer BE800 -- 2114 Mbps download, 1979 Mbps upload (IPQ9574 CPU)

Hi xiaofan and lads,

Happened to chance upon Asus BT8 online, a cheaper and more accessible competitor to BT10.
Any idea if this would be a good option and if a router could pair w this? Will need 3 nodes and BT8 is only available in a two pack.

Thanks!
