During insertion (and occasionally while not stationary) right? Driver flex. Not uncommon with dynamic drivers.

Just popping in to say how pleased i am with AT Singapore.

I got a IM50 last month just for fun and some listening in my office.

Sound is great but i noticed a crackling in the bass on the left channel. So i popped by Audio Technica HQ (which just happens to be a 5 minute walk from my office!) Told them of the problem and after showing them my receipt and warranty card, they did a quick check, confirmed the driver issue and did a one to one exchange for me.

Anyways, i was so impressed with the sound of the IM50 i grabbed a pair of IM70s as well and damn, that bass is insane. I am quite the Grado fan ( I have the GS1000 and PS500) but boy the bass of the IM70 is subterranean compared to the Grados.

Quite interested to try out the higher end IMs now (IM03 /04)!

If you want the original cable, you can try asking Audio Technica directly.

If you don't mind third party cable, would recommend you try the Fiio RC-HD1 cable. IMO it improves the sound as compared to the stock cable too. Even though it's not designed for the M50X, it works with the M50X and should work with the M40X. You can audition it at E1.

You can also try asking around and see if anyone is willing to sell you the straight 1.2m cable (M50X) or coiled cable (M50X or M40X). Try posting in the marketplace here and over at VR Zone.

You can also try asking around and see if anyone your current cable can be repaired.

:)
