stupid question but, the M50x is compatible with regular devices such as Iphones, Macbooks etc right? I am worried since its a 'studio' headphone.
The correct term is not compatibility but impedance.
How to determine whether headphone, computers can support
impedance is look at the specs of both headphone
and the sound card specs what impedance it can drive.
Like Creative Omni Surround 5.1 with support for MAC.
It is capable of driving up to 600 ohms headphone so
M50X should be no issue.
Handphone wise majority only up to 24ohms only
but it is not stated nor publish to let users know of this.
Tested and proven.
I got a lot of headphone, from normal to professional grade
so I know which can use on handphone/computer.
By right Professional studio monitor are not compatible
or use with handphone, computer and etc.
The proper applicable is for:
- Use in studio recording/DJ and it is connected to mixer/amps
- Videography/broadcasting
At first I actually didn't want to say M50X is good for you since
first thing I noticed you are not a audiophile or someone
who knows audio stuff.
You wouldn't know how to tell or choose a correct headphone for
you.
Since your interest is in M50X and giving that there a lot of people
using this headphone with their phone so I say why not you try it.
However at the M50X is at 38ohms you may require a
external DAC to drive it properly to get the full performance.
I can see that your budget is tight so my best advice to you.
Just get a decent headphone that supports handphone and PC.
Like I mentioned in the previous there are certain headphones
that supports handphone by Sehhenizer.
How to ensure this? Simple, certain models have this
cable called the in-line remote.
What this is, is you can adjust volume, answer call and etc
and also to ensure full compatibility with handphones.
Take this popular Sehhenizer Momentum 2 On ear as an example
(around $299) or the other Sony MDR-100ap both have this.
The M50X wise, unfortunately no doesn't include
this in-line remote cable.
Headphones without the in-line remove doesn't mean
it cannot be used with handphones but it can.
However you do not get that 100% performance.

Speaking of Sehhenizer Momentum 2 On ear headphone is actually
a good headphone especially it's impedance is 18ohms only
which means any device can drive it.
That is one alternative choice if you want to look into you
if you got the budget.
If not consider Sehhenizer cheaper models that support in-line remotes.
The box should indicate so not to worry.
