wow, my wife kept bugging me on Lofoten, i checked, its actually doable on public buses on the islands
While you can take the buses like 300, the frequency is not good. Also if you are there it is wasted if you don’t drive. Hence I recommend driving there to maximise the time there.

Maybe jio another couple with at least a driver?
Otherwise go there and do excursions whereby they provide vehicle and guide.

Average around 3.5-5k per pax for iceland 10D self drive. If your main is to see northern light then better go Norway.
Thank you for the response!! Yes it seems right, though I think I might enjoy Iceland’s sights a little more.

Iceland depends on which month you plan to go because the weather is really unpredictable. Before covid, I went during late Oct for 5 nights and managed to see 2 nights of northern light dancing.

You might want to check on this before you decide

I am thinking about this itin to Lofoten via Bodo. Fly into Bodo, then ferry to Lofoten. Could be interesting. :D

As long as you travel within 2024/2025 should have a higher chance to see northern light but still need to see heng suey :)

It will depends on your airfare - we got ours for about $1K round trip. Now it will cost $1,800. China Southern can give a better deal since it flies through Russian airspace, saving 2 hours (disregarding the stopover time)
still safe flying Russian airspace?
is mar - early apr still good, read midnight sun doesn't comes in until mid April?

Only China can fly through Russian airspace. I think is safe.

Mar is near equinox - equal day and night.
Midnight sun is above arctic circle around late April I suppose. Mar still can see Northern Lights

How many nights were you able to see them?
we did saw them at svolvaer town that night but not very clear until we did the chase the northern light tour which bring us to more remote places which is out of the city which had clearer views of the aurora. so 1 night. didn't managed to catch the lights on other nights as we didn't stay out very late.

I will be going to Tromso, Lofoten Islands, Trondheim and Oslo. The first two locations are repeat visits.
Outside Norway will include Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki, Rovaniemi (Santa Claus Village), among other place.
I checked - there will be plenty of snow. Will be a challenge.
Very nice! :)
