wiremodem, to become an Australian PR is not that easy. Reading your posts, it seems you are putting all your eggs in a basket by taking the TAFE option. I am an Australian citizen and I know many of my Melb uni accounting friends who have finished their degrees and cannot get PR. The Australian government is not stupid and will not give out PR certificates like water. It is not easy to work full time to pay living expenses whilst studying full time. You should get your parents help.

$400 a month for rental in Sydney? Where at, Redfern or La Perouse? I'm paying $413 a week (including food and bills) at University of Sydney's on-campus residential college. There is a restriction on the amount of legal hours international students can work, unless you are prepared to take a cash-in-hand aka asian restaurant job. I don't like your chances because it is much harder than you think, living in a country for one month doesn't help that much.

hmm its actually 800 a month for a double room, in chatswood. but sharing with gf so its 400. haha. yeah, 20 hours right? for student visa. Maybe another options for now is to work for a year first before going to uni straight instead of TAFE. SIM-RMIT accountancy requires 3.5 yrs of study as well.. hmm

You mean work in Australia for a year first before going to uni?

What are your thoughts towards the SIM-RMIT route? Remember there's also Curtin in Balestier where you can spend your final year abroad in Perth. Although, I must add the fees are horrendously expensive but it is recognised by CPA.

I was actually born there. My friends who didn't get PR actually went straight back to Singapore after they finished. I'think you have to stay for a while after you graduate but they didn't elaborate much. Also, their results were really mediocre, like passes and could not find graduate jobs. The sad part is not everyone who applies gets it, but that is also the reality of life. Your results must be outstanding.

hmm i mean work in Singapore.. visitor visa cannot work in australia ah.

its a 3.5 yr degree course at $33k, much cheaper yeah? I'm thinking about the abroad experience rather than staying in singapore.

For me cant get enuff loan from bank for overseas studies. 1 yr 27k SGD..

For eg my school starts in july, will my student visa start earlier then july or will only be valid during july period? Even if student visa, still unable to work before lessons officially starts rite?

iirc there's a bridging visa which comes into effect after u apply for PR? means you are still able to stay in aus until the results of your PR status is out.

Maybe you should take an Australian external program in Singapore with an option of spending your final year in Australia. You can also do Masters, postgrad in Australia if you want. You are better off doing an external program here than TAFE there. Oh yes, I know of one acquaintance who went to Monash College in Singapore, after one year or two (not too sure), she transferred to business in Caulfield campus, Melbourne. However her studies in Singapore did get exempted in Melbourne.

$27,000SGD per year for school fees? Which state, maybe for Adelaide but not for Sydney. If you are looking at Sydney, in UNSW and USyd, the fees for commerce are around AUD$29k . Don't quote me on those figures though but it's definitely more given the $1sgd:$1.30aud exchange rate.

Oh I didn't know you can stay. Anyway, my friends who wanted PR went straight home in December after their last exam. I'm not sure whether that would have affected their PR application. But nevertheless, these two friends did not get it.

Sydney University is a great university, I will be going there next month. Anyway. how much do the external study degrees cost here? Another suggestion is, you can always do a student exchange in Australia. Good luck.

i heard australia is quite racist especially to the chinese

They're more racist towards indians (especially in melbourne). From personal experience, I have seen the Australian war veterans say bad things to asian people because they think they're Japanese.

Also, there are so many PRCs international students in Australia. I do tend to get annoyed at them even in Singapore because they are generally quite rude, e.g. eating in libraries, talking loudly in chinese in lectures. Most aussies think we are all from China, hence there is some hatred/racisim which is quite understandable from their point of view.

Yes but you can't earn respect from idiots who walk up to you and tell you they hate you for being asian. You can't earn respect from such bogans. Instead of respecting them, you should smile and them and laugh to yourself for them being so intolerant. You can only live with it and try to adapt to their culture.
