Get a i7 ~

this or if you cannot afford it, buy i5 it is enough very powerful already for gaming, if you want to overclock buy the one XXXXK at the end, but overclocking not worth it imo, you may notice a difference and get extra fps but it will heat up your cpu and burn it.

Planning to use cyberlink powerdirector 13 to do the video editing.
Cheapest watercool from Corsair is the H60 at about $90 from shim lim price list download.
Hope dust at fan and radiator easier to clean than at CPU area.
Most probably going for i7.
Will stick to the lower price 1600mhz 16gb memory.
How about GraphicCard and PSU?

hey friend if you want to build a pc go pcthemes at sim lim square, their customer service superb, they build you can also watch and learn :), yesterday I brought my old pc to pc themes to replace graphics card but the boss very friendly and give me advice to build a new pc. Got it for $1,600 only :) the price also worth it, tradepac only sell 20 dollars cheaper than pct if you do some research, I never look back after this. I also want to upgrade my cpu to i7 in the future. my new pc got GTX 970 very happy :) after my exam I want to open up and play.

edit: also 16gb for ram is overkill, 8gb is enough already unless you the hardcore multitasker who open all applications don't want to close it :)

Hi. I am not very familiar because never use before. May I know what do you mean when you say using GPU based acceleration?

I read from the Cyberlink website that I will benefit if I use a 64bit OS. And there's this "OpenCL" which can use both CPU and GPU power.

If I choose i7K CPU, 16GB Ram, SSD with 64bit OS installed, will installing a GPU make a difference?
If GPU is necessary for smoother editing and faster rendering, will the Sapphire R9 280 3GB will overkill?

I have swapped from a r9 270x oc to a gtx 970.. not much diff on pd13u production. If gt budget constrain, can go lower for the gpu.. not a prob. As I say le gpu hardware acceleration for pd13 has not really matured yet as compared to ppcc because there are not a lot of extreme features on it. Very basic video editing stuff only but extremely user friendly.

*On a side note, if you click on the fix/enhance button for a list of preset editing parameters, you would not be able to check on the hardware acceleration button when you want to render you output file. It goes back to using your cpu brute frequency.

Hi, thanks for sharing your experience.
In that case, probably I on hold the GPU first. Meaning, setup the system without additional GPU but use the i7 integrated graphics HD4600.
Main purpose of this new system for normal web surfing, watch movies, youtubes and video editing using Cyberlink PD13.

By the way, just sharing. For those who are interested in PD13, they are having Black Friday sale now. 60% discount. I also registered for the member and they gave me member coupon 20%. Additional 20% off when you key-in MEMBER20 during check-out. (I am not related to Cyberlink, just sharing).

Or you can consider getting a Powercolor R7 265 for $229 or a Powercolor R7 260X for $179 if you are having issues fitting a R9 280 into your budget. GPU acceleration can help to speed up rendering, but it is still of secondary importance to having a good CPU like an i7 for video processing. Since wkweewee says that the Cyberlink video editor does not really make efficient use of GPU based acceleration and that you do not actually game, these mainstream GPUs will be good enough for your needs and are cheaper.
