for at home use. currently using Canon mp3000 series. like a lot of printers in this price range it is super mistake prone (printing on 2 pages at the same time), which wastes lots of paper, ink and time. Any recommendation that can make printing more efficient and less time consuming? Not looking for one of these expensive ones with too many functions, but a small upgrade will be acceptable :)

i have been using epson l210 for more than 3 years. the one without scanner is 199 and you can use third party inks which cost $5 for 100ml and can print at least 1000 pages

people will say dont buy inkjet, the ink will dry up if you dont use and that is true if you dont print for a few months. but its a non issue because there is power flush function. until now i still print everything in color

Using Fuji Xerox P265dw, Black Laser printer, not for colour printing but cheap and does the job well.

I would recommend the Brother HL-L2365DW. I personally use the color version of this printer. I've been using Brother Printers for years and swear by them. Even my Dad's office uses Brother printers.

If you are a student that doesn't use the printer over a long period of time in between printing sessions, then laser printer is better. This is because, unlike inkjet, it won't dry up over time.

Good one, bought the P255dw for less than $100 after considering the free NTUC coupons during an IT show, lasted for over two years. Needed the duplex.

Using this printer, most heavily used by my daughter for printing notes in b/w. The auto-duplex is good in saving time, paper and reduce thickness of notes. It now has become a must-have feature if I need to get another printer.
The original TN-2380 toner can get at around $80 as well.

not sure true or not..

if i print non colour, they shouldn't penalise the student. isn't it?

Printed out lovely ascii art :D

Seriously
Get a colour laser

I am using the Fuji Xerox CM305DF
Love the Auto Double sided printing
Cheap toner
Used the printer lopts when taking my vdegree and i never finished a set of toners before i graduated even with lots of PDF text printouts..
What i don't like is that it lacks double sided ADF. Scaning double sided pages is a chore...

I'm not joking about the CM305DF

Its the DOUBLE-SIDED COLOUR LASER PRINTING that is a boon if one needs to print out large volume PDFs for reading.
I swear by it when i chucked it 2 inch thick dockets for printing for presentation hand outs to each marker. No way i am gonna manual double sided print for it..

It is something that the mid-range colour lasers like the CM215 /225 cannot beat.

Scanning of docs produces crisp clear whites, which the CM215FW i had sucked at. The CM305DF scan quality, i give it 2 thumbs up both for text and images

i would say if one can convince dad to buy it as a family printer, it would be awesome ( awesome indeed if RPGs still used paper and dice to play ). :p

Samsung used to be one of the cheapest. Last time I got a mono Samsung laser for only $99. And one of the few printers back then that actually worked on Linux driverlessly.

Now they are one of the costlier brands methinks.
