Twice in 2 weeks: Fire breaks out at Toa Payoh Lorong 8

https://www.asiaone.com/singapore/twice-2-weeks-fire-breaks-out-toa-payoh-lorong-8

A fire has broken out at a Toa Payoh HDB flat on Tuesday (July 29) afternoon.

In a Facebook post, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF)said it was alerted to a fire at Block 229 Lor 8 Toa Payoh at 1.10pm.

"SCDF is currently at the scene conducting a firefighting operation," the post read.

An AsiaOne reporter on the ground shared that there were five police vehicles on scene, alongside four from the SCDF.

Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC MP Saktiandi Supaat was also seen at the scene.

An elderly woman was seen on a stretcher at the bottom of the block as firefighters geared up to enter building.

Three people were taken to hospital, The Straits Times reported.

AsiaOne has reached out to SCDF and the police for more information.

This incident comes just after two died in a fatal fire that broke out in a second-floor unit at Block 173 Toa Payoh Lorong 1 last Tuesday (July 22) evening.

The police said that they were alerted to the fire at around 7.30pm and found a 56-year-old man and a 61-year-old woman lying motionless in the unit.

They were subsequently pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF medic.

SCDF added in a separate update that three people from neighbouring units were assessed for smoke inhalation and taken to Singapore General Hospital.

This is a developing story.

Just spotted a huge fire at a unit while driving on CTE. Possibly Toa Payoh point block. Raging and lots of thick smoke.
Wah, that sounds serious. Hope SCDF already on-site and everyone is safe, especially the residents nearby. Fires in HDB flats can spread very fast if not contained quickly. Thick smoke also very dangerous — even more than the flames sometimes. If you’re nearby, try not to go close and let the authorities do their work. Hopefully, there’s no injury and just property damage. Keep a lookout for official updates from SCDF or the news.
Also a good reminder for all of us to check our home fire safety — like not overloading sockets, having a fire extinguisher or smoke detector if possible. Better to be safe than sorry.
