bitlocker recovery issue

Sadly its a win 7 machine. and did not have microsoft acct link to it. i know win 10 has this feature.

Why is there to be sad.

You mentioned that your dad has the administrator account. Just ask him for it. Since you said this is just for playing and experimenting

my dad though. and i also disabled to default administrator account. yes, i know ya gonna say why not ask my dad. but this is an experiment that im trying...

maybe try google to recreate a admin account or try to re-enable that admin account?

I think this is a chicken and egg problem? One needs admin right to create a new admin account or re-enable an existing admin account.

There is no way around it. so please stop asking for advise.

the purpose of encryption is to deter external parties from gaining access to the data inside.

even u bring to 3rd party recovery centre, they will ask u whether ur hdd is encrypted or not. if yes, they wouldn't bother to try.

If user can still logon, it mean the boot/system drive isn't encrypted, so one can still try to reset admin password.

still, admin rights has no relation to the encrypted data. you can have all rights but without decryption key, you still won't be able to read the data.

So can I confirm the following. You PC has

One user account with password for user id and Bitlocker password

One admin account belongs to your dad, he has both password for user and Bitlocker

Default admin user deleted.

you were almost right. This pc has 2 accounts. one my dad (admin acct), the whole pc is encrypted with bitlocker. My dad only has the password to the admin acct. user acct he does not have. bitlocker password recovery key is lost. noone has it. but lets take it that this is an experiment. so if by asking him, it would defeat the purpose of this experiment.

and lastly, the default admin acct is disabled.

You cannot recover data if bitlocker key is lost. No way to recover. Thats the whole purpose of bitlocker, its to encrypt the data to prevent someone from accessing the drive to steal the data.

well, yes i know. but i seen some youtube vids, they use brute force to hack in and somehow successful. not sure if its legit.

You can try this.

this might seem to work but it requires admin privileges which i don hv. otherwise would have worked nicely.

So your dad and you can log into Windows?
Do you need to supply the Bitlocker password or Windows will open the disk without you supplying the password.

In other words, you still have the Bitlocker password, but not the recovery key?

theres a program to enable that acct in dos mode. but again it will prompt for recovery key... so yea...

If you have the Bitlocker password, there is a chance the data may be recovered.

hi there! that was a brilliant suggestion but then it has to be done during the process of 'repairing' your os. which then again leads to prompting for bitlocker recovery password...
