So I opened the BOC smart saver account and I regretted cos it is really not the most user friendly bank.

My question now is, there is a $50 penalty if I were to close the account within 6 months.

I am thinking, will I be able to avoid this penalty if I were to transfer all the money out from the account and cancel the credit cards? Under other banks, account will automatically be closed if thete is no money inside for few months.

Any advice?

Do you have alternative that give you better interest elsewhere ? If not, make an effort to learn. It is not that difficult.

Do you have alternative that give you better interest elsewhere ? If not, make an effort to learn. It is not that difficult.

not that difficult but it's most difficult. nonetheless, i open 5 individual accounts for 5 of my family members and helped them all out.

wouldn't go down this route. think again and the effort is worthwhile, unless you mind the effort.

cant compare with local bank, but the benefits much higher compare to local bank too

I don’t like CIMB and hsbc also though. BOC Is not the worst and have not seen ICBC.

My TOP rank of the worst SG internet banking I have used is BOC and HSBC.

HSBC damn jiat Lat, very user unfriendly. Some more push ppl to convert to online card statement but I got hard time accessing it. Cannot use SMS OTP to view it, need to use token to login then can view.

Maybank also quite sucky. Only internet banking where I lag often, wait of 2-5 seconds after clicking. Also don’t understand why need 8 digit OTP, honestly 6 digit will do. Even Singpass also 6 digit only.

Citi, DBS rank as my favourite. UOB also not bad but the credit card part is confusing, as once minimum is made it just shows as no outstanding.

Trust me. Worse is ICBC. The rest don't even come close.

But as long as they have good products, I can learn. Even the worst ICBC just take a few moments to try out.

Agree. I took quite some time to learn how to do a fund transfer in HSBC, so many options in the IB, need to open layer by layer to get to the transfer page.
For BOC, need to learn which button to press on the token.
Maybank need to wait longer after click.

Bank app is amatuerish like year 2000 startup web app but yet my China counterpart say China banking apps are the best and most secure. Years ahead of Singapore.

hands down ICBC the worst of all.

BOC is manageable once you put the commonly used function on the homepage when you login, never had to click thru the menu since doing so few years ago unless it's a irregular function (e.g. increase credit limit, add debit card)

The BOC IB website is an acquired taste for me. Remembered hating it when I first opened my BOC account, but now surprisingly, I have become very comfortable with it and quite like their multi-tab function in fact!

ICBC really tops in crapness in their internet banking. Need to install some software/driver to access internet banking on desktop. Its really OMG one, install some dunno what thing on your PC!!!!!
