End of the day, regardless of cost of living, their country's success is enjoyed by their citizens, evident from how they make the minimum wage.

Whereas in sg, no matter how successful or advanced we become, it is not enjoyed by the peasants. Condos, landed, luxury cars, restaurant meals, all enjoyed by cecas, elites and their cronies.

The bulk of us llst in our pigeon hole hdb and eat our cai png quietly... :(

The only downside of amdk places ish they dont like wear mask during this period of time.

Meanwhile in Singapore = Too poor to go JB and we are still taught to feel rich

Based on progressive model our minimum wage is $8, theirs is 3 time.

But our $8 no need to pay tax, just contribute CPF.
And you still can buy hawker food and mcdonalds and some spare change to take public transport home.

Their wage, you most likely get taxed about 20-30%.
think twice about buying food court food ($10-15) and macdonald's is almost 1 hour's pay.

I used to know a nz mother who have 2 kids, work as cleaner and helper in restaurant only from 8 to 6, able to earn reasonably well than a cheapo engineer here.

Oh well, I'm not against minimal wages, as AI and the widening income gap increases, social transfer from the right to the left must happen.

The problem is, do singaporeans know what is the consequence of implementing a minimum wage? Are they going to be happier with much increased labour costs and higher tax? I know alot of families that cannot survive without a maid. I know of guys who can't even change a lightblub or do simple plumbing

so now we are saying that everyone must stay in condo, landed drive luxury cars and eat restaurants? :s13:

which country allows their citizens to do so? in europe or USA, many of them don't drive expensive cars or eat restaurants everyday. They cook (because they have no choice to save money), they drive basic cars (because they have to travel long distances to go to work)..

if you benchmark luxuries with what makes you happy then you should rethink what is the definition of success and happiness.

there are people who are earning alot, 24 years old buy lambo, 16 year old kid revenue up to 30k per month, 20s who start their own companies, etc, etc.

If you are so good, you can easily be like them?

we all live our own life, you have a choice in life. people need to stop jelly of other people's life and live your own life.

people nowadays watch too many tiktok and youtube of people living the high life. stop all these rubbish.

the notion of eating out has been ingrained into asian culture for decades.

you really dont have to eat your lunch at some food courts or coffee houses during work.

Asians generally work longer hours. A lot of ppl no time to cook

How much for grocery in supermarket there? Most westerners cook at home. They rather not be slaves to their jobs and debts.

You think our taxes are LOW?
P@P is smart enough to infuse high taxes in basic needs such such housing and cars. And brainwashing citizens to use public transport as cars are a luxury. Look at themselves...all elites with BIG houses and CONTI cars. Unless these Ministers all stay 3bedder HDB and take mrt to work then I have nothing to argue. But truth is Singapore TAX is not LOW too. Agree bo?

I don’t own a car so I don’t feel it. Basically other than house I don’t really have useless debts. You call it brainwash but I call it spending below my means. Nothing to complain tbh.

We have the problem of wanting more but not doing more.

Discounting the truly unfortunate, most people here have 5k jobs wanting to live 10k life. Won’t be able to do it anywhere.

Then blame foreigners for stealing jobs. Sure there might be unjust hiring process and it must be looked into but also cannot everytime everything also blame on FT. must ask oneself if they are qualified anot first ma? Then sure bring up the Uptron or don’t know what cert thing... if fake cert can get the job... and you can’t... oh right sure they will bring up say what oversea cannot verify etc etc. but this is just one or few out of so many but ya everything also others faults la.

How much contact do you have with Europeans?

They don’t eat out and pack soggy sandwiches for lunch because eating out is expensive. When they are here, they eat out all the time. They would rather grab subway than make their own.

Middle class Europeans who fly around on company’s expense look at our handphones and go wow.

Grocery slightly more ex only cigarette n alcohol are cheaper compared to here. Asian food, noodles n can food costs a lot more. 1 packet abt 1dollar. Cooking at hm is much cheaper. Our neighbours a swiss couple will invite us over for meals during festivals.

go and google Switzerland health care. Compulsory monthly payments (200+euros per month). it is a semi government / private insurance concept. With a deductible, so that people do see doctor when they don't need to.

singapore should learn this from them. To prevent people from anyhow see doctor to keng MC as they have to pay the deductible.
We are slowly moving towards this model after the government got burnt by all the serious chronic conditions showing up only in the late stages at the hospitals.

They are realising the merits of heavily subsidising primary care at the GP level through the CHAS card and $5 screening may achieve better detection and control of chronic conditions and prevent a larger bill in the future.
