Budget Build Recommendation.

Budget around 800. Thinking of getting the new Ryzen 3400G APU with Asus Prime B450m mobo. Heard that it is recommended to get a RAM with Samsung B-die. Is it still necessary for the new Ryzen? If yes, I might get the new Intel 9 series instead. Only used for youtube and watching videos. No gaming. Kindly advise. TIA.

Get the 2400g instead. Same performance as the 3400g and much cheaper. Only real advantage it has over the older 2400g is that it comes with a better cooler. For the price difference, might as well buy pick and buy a cooler yourself.

Ryzen is best to run with high memory speed. Doesn't need to be Samsung b die as long as it can hit at least 3000mhz, 3200mhz preferred.

If you wanna go for Intel, remember that the f series does not have onboard gpu as well, similar to the non apu ryzen chips.

Note: I'm not referring to sg chip prices. Their difference is negligible locally from qoo10/Lazada/shopee/sls. Newegg/Amazon prime prices are cheaper then local and they have international warranty anyway hence it's from this perspective.

Just grab 2200G, A320 Mobo, 2x 4GB 3000mhz ddr4 ram.

If I were you I will grab Asrock A300 Mobo + Case + Power Supply.

Just get a cheap Ryzen 3 2200G ($110-120 local set with vouchers/bank promos online, haggle for cheaper if you buy 2nd hand on carouhell) + ASRock A320M HDV R4.0 ($74 on lazada w/o any promos).

Reason I don't recommend Ryzen 3 3200G is because you'll need to update BIOS to support Ryzen 3000 series, too much hassle.

Recommended to get 2x4GB/2x8GB 3000mhz/3200mhz ddr4 ram. Average user don't need Samsung B-die, just get the cheapest rams you can find that fit these specs.

Sometimes you won't be able to run full ram OC speed when the ram is not on mobo ram QVL (eg. 3000mhz cl15 end up running at 2933mhz cl16), but it won't make a real difference so don't need to worry too much.


If you really want to squeeze your budget you can get 2x4gb 2666mhz cl15/16 rams for $69 online w/o any promos, cheaper if carouhell. You're not gaming so it's fine if you're not buying the optimal 3000mhz/3200mhz rams.

Just make sure it you buy your rams in pairs (eg. use 2x4gb instead of 1x8gb) because it'll improve the performance of your integrated graphics by a lot.

I built a set like this because it's so cheap (but with 2x4gb 3000mhz ram), even though it ended up collecting dust because never use I have no regrets



ASRock A300 Deskmini is really good, very small and compact but you have to pay more for it. Also can't get it locally have to buy from overseas.

If you buy this make sure you buy so-dimm ddr4 rams which is meant for laptops, don't buy the normal desktop rams as it wont work for this.

bruh .. what ram you used ?? and no blue screen ?? from the online review .. see alot of problems non QVL rams .. advise ?

Just get a cheap working one will do.

Had helped a fren buy 2600 + msi b450m mobo with 2x 2666mhz rams. Doubt its in the qvl lis neither did i check for it. Boots up well and can still enable 2666mhz under xamp2.0 profile. Dun be too overly concern on qvl when u r not gonna oc it. Even running in 2133mhz is still fine.

there is a review on YouTube for Ryzen memory scaling and the difference is single digit percentages going from DDR4-2133 to DDR4-3600.

That said, DDR4-3200 CL16 is quite cheap nowadays so probably worth going for that unless budget is tight.

I think the qvl list only means the manufacturer has tested that specific kit can run at its xmp on their mobo

Only matter if you are getting high end speed or trying to overclock your ram.

Had helped a fren buy 2600 + msi b450m mobo with 2x 2666mhz rams. Doubt its in the qvl lis neither did i check for it. Boots up well and can still enable 2666mhz under xamp2.0 profile. Dun be too overly concern on qvl when u r not gonna oc it. Even running in 2133mhz is still fine.

As per both spreadsheets, both can cover till 3200mhz. So i dun see much diff be it A320 or B450. Best part, my fren's ram are of different Ballistics model yet still work.

Might chose to go for either i3 or i5 after much consideration. Planning to pair it with Gigabyte B360m with either i3 8100 or i5 9400. Will get a external GPU in the future as well. Thinking of 16gb RAM with 128GB SSD too. Casing wise, might go for CM Masterbox Lite 3.1.
