Buy now or Wait?

Hi guys, as you all know PC Show 2013 is around the corner and i need to get a notebook/ultrabook soon for school.

But heard that Haswell chips are coming out soon too so is it advisable or worth it to get a notebook/ultrabook during PC show or should i wait?

Will the price of Ivy bridge processors notebooks drop by a lot?

Actually if you go around checking out, there are quite a lot of laptop offers now. Most shops/ manufacturers are clearing out their Ivy Bridge processor stock to make way for the new Haswell powered laptops.

I've given up waiting for Haswell and already went ahead with Ivy Bridge. If you are gonna use the integrated graphics primarily, Haswell will be worthwhile waiting. If you are going to use dedicated graphics, then I suppose the improvement will not be substantial. I guess Ultrabooks will benefit from Haswell the most.

It might be out, but limited options at the start I suppose. Can't really confirm the actual date myself, and retailers can't disclose too due to NDA. They will just tell you coming, or next month.

Mmm sources(go google) claims that apart from the iris iGPU coming with haswell, haswell can also get up to 10hrs of battery life. Not just Haswells are coming, AMD richlands APUs are coming too..not to mention new gen GFX cards from ATI and Nvidia. IMO, i would wait as 1) potentially game changer tech releasing, such as richlands APUs and that 10hours battery life claimed by haswell o.0
2) and laptops tends to be un-upgradable and they gonna stick around with you for some time so...i only go for latest tech so that it actually last longer/stay relevant longer. See no point in getting older tech for laptops..

If you wanna buy cheap laptop, now is the time. retailers should all be clearing last stocks liao. Moment haswell/richlands out, everything else will be EOL and no more cheap laptops le.

hmm.. guess i will just go down pc show to check it out and since my sch dont really need a high-end/ goood lappy i guess i would pretty fine with cheap notebook! Rumours for Haswell is only for European side? Or internationally? Btw what is EOL?

My take, if you are getting an Ultrabook, I recommend waiting for Haswell. The greatly improved GPU and power consumption really helps. The current Ultrabooks are under powered in the graphics department when running only on the HD4000 integrated graphics. If you are not gonna be using their integrated GPU, the upgrade becomes less attractive, since power consumption is the only benefit.

From wut i know, for haswell, MSI is looking at releasing its haswell lineup in june, after computex..so i think its a international date. Not too sure about the other brands.

Richlands should be out anytime soon le. MSI rumored pricing is @1399 usd(?) for a A10m + 7970m, @1799usd(?) A10m+8970m = good deal IMO.

Tempting, but I rather you wait a little longer before buying a Haswell laptop at launch. Not sure if the bug for its USB ports will affect the mobile parts, and I believe the first parts may have the chipset with the bug.

The bug is not a deal breaker to be honest, just that I won't be happy being the first to plunge in and get a set with some issues, as oppose to people getting it sometime later.
