There is no specific thread for capitastar app, so thought of starting one.

I have a question. What is the difference between paying directly with stars vs redeeming stars to buy ecapitavouchers and then paying with it?

Rededm Star$ directly, you can make use of "loose" change. Exchange rate is 5000 = $5 or 10 points= 1 cent.

Like what has been discussed, can obtain better mileage through the various schemes. One example is Passion card member can exchange $5 Capitaland voucher with 4500 points....

Last year when you use ecapitaland vouchers you get double stars
And also every month if you passion card member you can redeem 4500stars for $5. Limit to 2 times per person per month

A few months ago, i posted a thread about how Capitastar app screwed me over and made me throw face in EDMW. The mods deleted it. Probably someone from CapitaLand saw and didn't like.

TLDR; It was the anniversary for me and my lady. I stored up almost $1k worth of eCapitavouchers, with another $500 in $Stars. Went with the lady to go buy a Kate Spade as a gift, but end up couldn't make payment as the Capitastar app was down that day. Super awkward at the cashier while i fumble with the app and cashier + lady staring at me. End up the lady had to pay for her own bag as my other cards were already at limit (i set card limit for all my cards at cashback cap to minimise damage in case of fraud).

Anyway, been trying to use it for other random crap since then. I'm not sure why, but quite often shops will say that they are currently unable to accept eCapitavouchers due to "technical problems". The Chaterraise at WestGate is especially bad at this. Went twice, with like a 1mth gap in between. Both times they claim to have technical problems and didn't let me try to pay with it. Haven't went since.

So moral of the story: this is not a reliable means of payment. Don't store up too much, or you will struggle to use before expiry date. Though i suppose there's always the failsafe option to spend it all at NTUC.

Lol, I never had an issue with e-capital vouchers.

I did encounter before merchants (esp older folks manning the cashier), who claims certain payment type is not available when they do not know how to use it. Like a Polar, where Krispay (Kris+) shows available, but cashier just say cannot.

For me was like 1 in every 5 attempts? I frequent the west side malls. So far only have one cashier outright tell me he dunno how to accept ecapitavoucher as payment haha. Most of the time they just claim "technical issue".

But I must agree that nowadays it is easier. There is a QR code to scan and key in how much u wanna use. Last time they need to take out their special terminal and they need to punch in dunno what in their pos. Then when they dunno how to operate, they conveniently said cannot

I am also westside guy :)

So far in westgate was able to use it at miniso, yole.

At IMM mall, was able to use it at popular but another sports shop declined.

I have accumulated about $150. Will use it for buying like small small stuff and finish it.

It’s a bit strange how some shops can let you use ecapitavoucher below $5, but most can’t.

I have come across some shops which allowed any amount, and other shops that allowed blocks of $5.

I guess it is up to the individual shops to determine....

Think physical vouchers may only be available for bulk purchase by corporations?

Nowadays, for e-voucher top-up, send SMS or email with code to redeem ...
