The condition of the car after the incident says more about the horrible experience than the video itself.

Water pressure is scary...

You can't really see the height the car fell once the water started pouring... but to have enough weight/pressure to crumple the roof is no joke.
The car is not air tight. The hole only 3 meters deep got what high water pressure. The damage is dropping into the hole, dashcam video showed road bitumen caved in on the car.

I know nothing about cars.

Can someone tell me how much typical car insurance covers in a case like this?

Enough to buy a new car?

Why no one talk about accountability? Was the sinkhole an act of God or caused by the all the digging and drilling done by the contractor? Which ministry is going to take responsibility for this and ensure it does not happen again elsewhere? Should an inquiry be done to see who failed in exercising a diligent of care to the public? And more importantly what punitive or criminal action will be taken against parties concerned...and I don't mean pushing the blame down the line....I mean the owners of the contracting ffirm or the highest ranking civil servant or minister to be held accountable either for the incident or the lapse of duty of care!

When Mothership visited the workshop that took in the car, the recovered vehicle sported extensive damage with a shattered windshield, a visibly crumpled roof that had collapsed inwards, buckled and dented body panels, and a front left fender that had almost been torn off.

Mud and dirt caked the car.

Give already said the cause was due to sewage works

So it will never be classified as act of god
If there is no ambiguity in the tnc of the insurance, insurer should just cover. If got grey area, Insurer should indicate announce it but cover at goodwill. Free advert for insurer.

Whether it's act of god, it's pending Govt announcement. Then the insurer will follow-up?
