but isnt the purpose of CARDUP is to let you pay things normally you couldn't pay with your credit card. say if you want to pay rent, you simply cannot use UOB ONE to get rebate.

Dun get you.

Your $900 calculation is not correct. It's $950-$495, as there's the 2.6% fee.

If you say cash back worth it, for a fair comparison, you need to use 5- 2.6 to do the calculations.
You were using 5 % to compute cashback just now without minusing 2.6 %

I didnt minus 2.6% in both the cases. Lets do it again with a real scenario on SQ,I chose random Sep 12th 2017 Dep and Sep 20th 2017 Arr.

Miles:

Normal cash ticket $1400,
Miles ticket 76000 Miles +$241.
Total cost in case of Miles ticket = $494 cardup fee + $241 = $735
Your saving compared to Normal cash ticket = $1400 -$735 = $665

Cash Back:
If you were to charge $19000 on UOB One, only $18000 will get you rebate because of the $2000 cap per month, your cost is $468. Your earning is $900. Net earning is $432.

So when you do miles your gain is about $233. In my earlier example I had assumed Singapore London normal cash ticket is $1200, which is why I said both miles and cashback and same.

Actually, I just did a search on skyscanner, KLM airfare for the same date is $860!

I am convinced, for me, the best thing is to book the cheapest ticket whichever airline provides rather than accumulating miles. Another point to note, regarding miles tickets, is they are on waitlist even for Sep date, so you need to plan your journey really really well in advance, or else it is really impossible to redeem your miles ticket.

KLM is Dutch airline ;) Malaysian and Turkish airlines are usually the cheapest. I don't see any problems in traveling them. I am going on a business trip this month to Romania in Turkish airlines, business class booked by my company, layover at Istanbul, should I be afraid? Actually I had a choice between Qatar airways and Turkish airlines. But Qatar timings were bad that's why didn't choose. Now, after what has happened with Qatar, I think my choice of Turkish was right :)

There is no online category for HSBC Visa Platinum

Here and there they have promotion for online category. Eg. these 2 months they have 6% rebate on weekday, 12% rebate on weekend for online and oversea purchase. :)

Good luck when banks block cardup transaction code from awarding miles or rewards points

Surprised to see no dedicated thread for cardup.

Let's discuss the best way to make use of cardup.

In my case specially I pay rent of $1800 a month. So the cardup fee is 2.6% and I am thinking of using UOB One 5% rebate for transactions above $2000 a month. So I could earn around $50 a month. Any other ways to make better use of cardup?

Bank of China SG accepts Cardup as online transactions. Using Family card on Cardup earns 5% cash rebate and only need to spend min. $500. There's a 2% promotional fee to Family cardmembers now, which means still can earn 3% cash rebate, pretty sure this is the highest rebate so far.

I'm a happy user who have gotten the cash rebate. =:p

Let's discuss the best way to make use of cardup.

The best way is not to discuss this thing publicly and open. Hard truth.
