CCNA really got use? i heard some ppl said those cert not really useful.

I'm speaking from 5 years of experience with only a diploma, without a certification. So take it with a pinch of salt.

In practice, yes, it is not really useful, real life scenario is just really case to case basis. A test can never fully cover 100%. (They never ever teach you how to tidy up a super messy cables isn't it? And the test given is always assumed that no ERRORS in routers or devices. U have to find out what those errors are)
Yet without a cert, chances are, you wouldn't even score an interview in a job. Cert is just there for a chance to score an interview. Unless u can really prove u know your stuff during interview, chances are low (they are not going to give u a switch/server in the interview room to show your magic! haha!)

So for me, I really pray really really hard to God for help to get an interview and the rest is just prove your stuff during interview.
I hands on from desktop/servers/switches/firewall routers/ port forwarding/ dns/ AD/ exchange/ MDaemon Mail SVR/ A, MX records/ Domain administration/ write NT backup scripts/ etc. I even tided a server room with more than 80-100+ cables that looks like spaghetti on a bowl.

Some examples: the 7 layers of OSI i learn in poly? in 5 years 0 use. Not even in Holdings company I work for has use for it.
the cmds we learn in CISCO routers? None. Just copy and paste scripts and press enter. Most firewalls/routers are almost GUI ready now (yet slower compared to cmd lines)

But seriously, jack of all trades are always in demand (cover2-3 jobs) but remember that jack of all trades are MASTERS of NONE.

I enquired NTUC Next U last thursday for my bro. Their current promotional price is $3210 for 10 day ccna course that includes icnd1 and icnd2 exam vouchers. ntuc union members and non-members who signup for ntuc membership are given additional $250 UTAP discount it seems.

How useful is not in the management handbook. The bottom line is for the management to have a peace of mind if they make the wrong decision not employing a CCNA.

It is not documented that many incident do happened for some reasons. After investigation, they blame who ever they can blame but not the mangement incompetence because they are not trained CCNA. In a real situation, people who has a CCNA and make a mistake will push the blame to a non CCNA. If CCNA doesn't exist, the management will have to blame themselves. Because they employ the person.

So is CCNA really useful? Its just a movie ticket for your first interview.

hi guys,

i called NextU to enquire about the NICF - Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) course.

Was told that i should take the CNICF - Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT) course before i take CCNA.

I've been a network engineer for about 5 years now. Routing and configuration of firewalls i can say i'm at least on intermediate level. Cisco IOS commands i have basic knowledge like configuration of Cisco 881/1841 for SingNet lines and circuits.

Do you think i should take CCENT then take CCNA? Or should be ok to just hop on to CCNA?

Advise please. wish to get certified since there is govt subsidies now for better recognition if i want to switch jobs.

Get ccna. If there is gap in learning, find some books online or library for read up before attending the class.

Ccna include ccent too but the pace is much faster

Is there subsidy for just the exam fees only?

For nicf, you pay 10%-30% of the total course. For ccna, it is 30%.

If time and money allow, go for it before such benefits are gone. Mostly are only applicable for Singaporeans.

I missed the time whereby I pay only 10%.

Fresh grad nia, no company to sponsor me.

Thanks for the info. But they are for subsidisng the courses, not the exam fees

The only exam fee subsidy i have seen so far is the NTUC 50% off for Union members

I think CCNA better to take ICND1 ($200) + ICND2 ($200), rather than the composite exam ($500)

At least you fail, you only waste $200
