I think you should read up more.most prob he must have brought a VIA processor (Taiwan) tablet though make in china.
if i put myself in china/taiwan rom developer for via processor, I will kill myself. Imagine they have to read english which is not their strength and still write good rom?
very hard la.....
Secondly, a tablet in china is a luxury to most pple, many over there do not even own a smart phone.. a degree english grad in china hardly get 3000rmb.
So it explains why they cannot understand our expectation that we hope to have in android tablet.
But i am sure, if we tell them what to do, they will try their best.
so far our partner factories are quite nice , motivated, responsible, enthu chinese and some innovative too.
1. VIA is a Taiwanese company. Their products documentation would be primarily in Traditional or Simplified Chinese. If you noticed their products in the early 90s, their english manuals are a joke. In any case, language should never be a problem. I have been in the IT industry and language barrier is usually overcome. No only the Chinese are doing darn well at it, the Russians are too. Sometimes it is the angmohs who have problem getting help from Chinese and Russian sites, because these non native English speakers are better than the native English ones.
2. Tablets as luxury items? No doubt there are poor people in China, but hey, where doesn't? If you had been to Shanghai and Beijing, you'll realise there are so many middle and upper class citizens there. There may be millions of grads without jobs; earning less than 3k RMB per month, but there are also millions of others who earn a decent living. These folks can afford luxury items. If people in SG can buy tablets, then the affluent in major cities in China should be able too. What proportion of their affluent folks be? At even 1%, they would far exceed the SG population.
The problem with tablets is as simple as "poor quality control". It has nothing to do with their standard of living.
