most prob he must have brought a VIA processor (Taiwan) tablet though make in china.

if i put myself in china/taiwan rom developer for via processor, I will kill myself. Imagine they have to read english which is not their strength and still write good rom?

very hard la.....

Secondly, a tablet in china is a luxury to most pple, many over there do not even own a smart phone.. a degree english grad in china hardly get 3000rmb.
So it explains why they cannot understand our expectation that we hope to have in android tablet.

But i am sure, if we tell them what to do, they will try their best.

so far our partner factories are quite nice , motivated, responsible, enthu chinese and some innovative too.
I think you should read up more.

1. VIA is a Taiwanese company. Their products documentation would be primarily in Traditional or Simplified Chinese. If you noticed their products in the early 90s, their english manuals are a joke. In any case, language should never be a problem. I have been in the IT industry and language barrier is usually overcome. No only the Chinese are doing darn well at it, the Russians are too. Sometimes it is the angmohs who have problem getting help from Chinese and Russian sites, because these non native English speakers are better than the native English ones.

2. Tablets as luxury items? No doubt there are poor people in China, but hey, where doesn't? If you had been to Shanghai and Beijing, you'll realise there are so many middle and upper class citizens there. There may be millions of grads without jobs; earning less than 3k RMB per month, but there are also millions of others who earn a decent living. These folks can afford luxury items. If people in SG can buy tablets, then the affluent in major cities in China should be able too. What proportion of their affluent folks be? At even 1%, they would far exceed the SG population.

The problem with tablets is as simple as "poor quality control". It has nothing to do with their standard of living.

Just checked out dealextreme and there are many different variations of the Herotab. Are they just different in screen size and minor details? Or are some of them imitations of the real Herotab?

And dealextreme is sold out for most of the Herotabs already :( Anywhere else to get them? Thanks! :o
Not all Chinese tablets are good. Depending on your criteria, but for me, most of them are not good. Some are expensive, have low quality hardware and lousy OS. I'm especially referring to those who cannot upgrade to the latest Android version.

Why this is so? Coz usually those tablets that can upgrade to the latest version, are those with a strong tech support team, or a capable support community. These people are supporting the hardware because it is good, else, they wouldn't waste their time at it. Good hardware and good support come hand-in-hand.

So, do not dive in and buy any Chinese tablets. In fact, do no dive in and buy any tablets. Read up. Most tablets even the bad ones, can appear to satisfy your daily usage, however, the difference lies in the additional features like capacitive screen, HDMI output, full Android market, and upgradability (imagine buying a Core i5 PC but due to the incompetent vendor, you can only install Windows XP).

When you realise you need it, it's too late, coz you've already bought the product and the vendor tells you "sorry, we can't provide an updated OS for your tablet".

Some tablets are sold out because they are really good i.e. hot stuff! While some are sold out because the manufacturer is of a small scale and thus incapable of meeting typical demands. ;)

So, you need to be clear when you see a product being "sold out". Is it really due to popular demand, or is it due to something else? Is the product really that good such that consumers are snapping them up like hot cakes? Sometimes the stocks are purposely delayed to create the "sold out" phenomenon, which in turn will encourage further sales. :)

Good luck in getting your Herotab! I got mine at 250 USD and even at that price, it's worth it.

If Touchpad can load Android, then the Touchpad will be better. Else WebOS on its own is pretty much "locked".

Just to add on, I just realised that PhoenixROM allowed my Herotab / Dropad 3-point multi-touch. Very useful for drawing inside "Art of Glow". My toddler loves it! :)

DreamPad shipment delay

DreamPad shipment delay and only left 15 sets from showroom.

as this quantity for Comex is quite alot and we are short handed so this batch will not be assembled in singapore but qc will still be done here..

though it is not assembled locally, we will still do our best to give our best service.

Just brought one Dreampad II yesterday. Is there a charging indicator somewhere? Unable to check the battery charging status, have to check it after power-on the unit.

Bought the dream pad II from aloy as well.

@chriscel, when you plug in the power there will be a lighting symbol on the top right and a message saying its charging will pop up, only problem is there's no battery info.

My big peev so far is this thing can't set static IP or I can't find anything relating to setting a static ip as this seems depending on a DHCP server.

Otherwise so far am very pleased with the tablet for the kind of price. But looking to have it rooted and a custom firmware added on because the android version has a rather chin na feel on it.
