Actually, everything in life is just an illusion, including a Rolex's worth. Lee Kuan Yew understood this, that's why all his life he only wore simple watches like Casio, etc - the kind of watches that most world leaders won't be caught dead wearing, even at home.

Paying in excess of $18,000 for a Rolex sports series watch, is really, for want of a better term, nothing more than a superficial exercise to feed one's own ego. This is also true of the whole accompanying culture of 'value appreciation', 'limited stock', 'rare edition', etc. All of this is really just a man-made illusion. Nothing more.

Sadly, this is one of the single biggest weaknesses of Man, but that is life, unfortunately...

It is interesting to note that while LKY did not subscribe to any particular religion in his life, he totally grasped and understood this philosophy very well, in fact, more so than most people(especially the rich).

All luxury brands and their perceived high prestige and value, are really nothing more than an illusion. Understand this very important philosophy in life, and you will live a more enlightened life, filled with less frustration, less self-doubt, more self-confidence, higher self-esteem, and more peace.

Lucky is the man who is able to find and marry a woman who also understands this philosophy.

U dun understand LKY. He doesnt want luxury goods cos with his money, he can have anything he likes. What he wants is ABSOLUTE POWER! Look at all those who opposed him. :D

He once said he doesn't want pple to love him as a leader. He want pple to fear him. :D
