Just came back from Doi Inthanon. I prefer this than Doi Suthep and Golden triangle tour. But then again, these 3 places is a must go if you have the time. Had fun time zip lining and ninja warrior the inflatable balloon at grand canyon, having awesome meals at sat/sun night market and khantoke dinner, setting lanterns into the sky and enjoying the cooling weather~

I am planning to go white temple on 23-Nov morning and come back to my hotel in Chiang Mai @ 6:30pm.

Do you think I am able to reach my hotel on time at 6:30pm, considering that Yee Peng Festival is happening, will there be road closure and cause a jam for my return journey?

How you intend to go white temple? If self drive would need about 3 hours each way, meaning you will just go there, punch card and return to chiang mai?

Road closure only at Tha Phae road that area in the evening for the parade, so the route coming back from CR should not be affected.

My 2 bahts :D

Thought of joining a one day tour which will pick us up at chiang mai at 7am. The tour includes white and black temple and long neck village. Will reach white temple at 11am, then have lunch before going to black temple. Not interested in long neck village but it is included in the package. According to the tour package, we will reach our hotel in chiang mai at 630pm but I am worried about the jam during this festival

Anyone can advise on the logistics of going to Doi Inthanon from Chiangmai?
I should book a taxi for the whole day right? I'm staying at Dusit Princess, should book the taxi from the hotel?
Is it a full day trip if I wanna visit a couple of waterfalls and do a hike (Kew Mae Pan or Ang Ka trail?)?
Anything else I should visit along the way, or I should take note of?
Cheers.

If join such tour, very high chance you will reach your hotel after 8pm. But then why you need back hotel 6.30pm? :s11:

I would be at CM from 21st to 27th, thinking of going CR for one night on 24th. 23rd night will be at the bridge over Ping River to release sky lantern, can text me if you are there too :D

Do check up with the many tour agencies over there and might find something suitable for you. Alternatively rent a car and go :)

Parade at tha phae road. For watching and even releasing lantern u may walk along tha phae road till the bridge at ping river, very happening there. But do beware Ur belonging and also stay alert those burning lantern might drop over Ur head anytime.

Old town is very walkable to alot places. 4 gates in 4 directions so u need get Ur orientation correct =) first go Tha Phae gate, once out the gate u see Starbuck and Boots, that's the area the parade starts, assembly point is to the right of Starbuck.
If u want to go to the bridge jus walk straight all the way. The river also alot stalls selling krathong.

There are two government-sponsored mass lantern launches in the city. The first is at Lanna Dhutanka Buddhist Center behind Mae Jo University, and the second is at the Cowboy Army Riding Club near Mae Rim.

Yes full day. Do note that there are no street lamp or road divider along the twisting mountain road and the driver drives like a F1 racer. If you join a shared tour, the people may request driver to drive slow. U will reach your hotel at 9pm. Depends on safety is more important or watching lantern is more important for u.
