Am heading to Chiangmai for Christmas as well as in Jan, twice in 2 weeks.

Haven't been there before, so really excited. Luckily wife's cousin will be bringing us around. :)

Visiting relatives at Chiangmai and actually flying over to Udon Thani (no direct flight from Chiangmai to Khon Kaen) and my brother-in-law will pick me up and we will drive about 1 hour back to Khon Kaen (wife's hometown).

Now reading up on Chiangmai and where to go! :)

ChiangMai is always nice!! We have been there since 2006 for consecutive 3 years thereafter.
We are going next month again and very much look forward for the LaiKaThong festival which always falls on Chinese calendar of Oct 15. Beautiful parade, lighting and fly the lantern..
Best to visit ChiangMai during these period, weather is cool in the morning.
Enjoy!!

i would recommend going to the elephant nature park
it's a park for rescued elephants
no elephant riding, but you get to feed and bath the elephants

another place, for the adventurous, will be the big cat park (can't remember the name)
when you can get up close, under supervision, with lion cubs and tigers
I'm planning to go the Elephant Nature Park in Aug! for a day tour, it's about 100sgd. Which hotel did you stay at? Cause there is only free pick up from certain regions in Chiang Mai.
