the ticket counter can be quite a distance from the entrance
the counters sometimes open 1-3 only
long queues (7-12 ppl long)
many usually have list of "difficult" issues to resolve and take some time to settle 1 by 1

just buy on 12306. the change/ cancellation fee doesnt exceed 20% usually

i'm travelling from shanghai to nanjing in mid nov. bought my tickets thru trip.com liao. now on reserved status awaiting the tickets to go on sale in end-oct.

this shld be an easy route.
the interesting one is to get those non stop/ 1 stop G* tickets, usually the fastest about 61 mins from Hongqiao > NJ south and usually reserved for those SH > Beijing travellers. the other trains stop at more stops and take 75mins upwards

If someone is looking to buy a train ticket on the spot during festive like 10.1, 5.1, guess he is brainless.

I always change my ticket last min by walking to the station and ask for next available train and till now no problem.

BTW, u can use "trip" or whatever app to check availability for next few trains.

Initially, I was having issues with the booking using hotmail. I encountered this issue and keep asking to verify my email address. After changing from hotmail and gmail, I received an verification link on gmail, it took quite a while to reach my gmail account. Once clicked on the gmail verification and I was able to make the booking on 12306 app,

Which email provider are you using? I believe for Microsoft, there's possible filters setting in place, might want to check if you turned on filter to restrict.
Otherwise, I guess you got to keep trying till you receive it.

Okay, now that you verified. Keep trying liao, the outbound email service connectivity is wonky.

So far able to purchase train ticket via English version, but unable to choose seat. I shall try using Hotmail again for verification, if not I am unable to purchase ticket via Chinese version.

In China, best to use yahoo mail to register for accounts..I have no issue receiving emails using yahoo

think i'm done with 12306 app, unless use spouse's passport to register another account.

is there a 12306 customer service counter in HongQiao or PuDong?
