I opened a CIMB account weeks ago. Called etc. they said they would expedite. No response. If the bank doesn’t even have the capacity to handle current requests for simple stuff like opening a savings account then its hard to imagine they will raise rates to attract more funds; they don’t need to.
You must know that last 2 COVID years, FD was 0.5% , CIMB was like a ghost bank, even their Orchard branch closed. Only 6 mth ago they woke up.

Yep. And I get it that they have only one branch left and all that. But what is surprising to me is that they can't open a new account for which a CSO was able to check my documentation on the phone. She took about 5 mins to verify all my information and to confirm my deposits. If a CSO can check and has checked the documentation then what is left -- all the information must be in core banking already. What is left in "opening an account"? :spin::spin::spin:

I am beginning to suspect that some manager who needs to sign an account opening form is on leave or has gone back home on vacation. Or the IT person who needs to issue the mobile/internet banking token is on leave etc. I am gonna go to the branch tomorrow. Will let you folks know what they say.

It is quite sad to read all these recent bad experiences with CIMB because for older timers like me who have maintained our accounts all the years even with not so good interest rates (but higher than market rate), their customer service like their hotline has been alright, even good.

There are many banks now that are not serving their customers well. Everyone knows so many uncles and aunties are wasting so much of their time at UOB queuing physically only to hear the bankers' sales pitches when they try to place their FDs.

that does not happen on china bank like BOC, ICBC, there are alot of uncles and aunties at their branches but no sales pitches only placement of FD, that simple !
Wonder how long CIMB will take to open FD for existing customers with their savings account ?

Agree.

Hope CIMB management realise that the method and long delay in opening accounts online is tarnishing their reputation.

A good product (high rate FD) which was supposed to be a good selling point for them ends up frustrating would-be customers right from the start.

I guess I was pretty lucky that I didn't have to do anything at CIMB recently, just open online within the app, done within 30mins... fuss free.
My past experience with CIMB in terms of admin is generally very positive.

I have the same thoughts as you too. 1 or more senior guys at CIMB is/are on leave and affecting the whole workflow.

It took more than 3 weeks from the time I banked in that $1k, to the time I got my account set up and my CIMB Clicks internet banking activated. Which happened today.

Oh well, better late then never I guess.

U are lucky. My fam from end November until now no news. She wrote in a couple of times no reply also. Very disappointed. Can only pay them a visit when she's back in Sg end January.

I have also tried help her to call in but waited on the line for a long time also don't get to speak to anyone one. I tried call 2 weeks ago and now. Quite a frustrating experience. Thank goodness she didn't transfer in the full amount. The 1k potential higher interest loss take it as pay a price, learn a lesson. I should applaud RHB as they are so much more efficient in account opening. That's the type of service we need especially they want this to be done online but can't promise us a prompt online response. Causing us inconveniences having to pay them a visit. Imagine my fam is their CIMB card holder. She has their cc from many years ago. Just that at that point she didn't at the same time open the Fast Saver acc. So by right as an existing card holder, shouldn't it be more easy to open bank acc especially the process of vetting through to get their cc is much more stringent as in need to show payslip etc. Anyway, i feel bad for pointing her to CIMB now that she got stuck and the need to wait until she is back to physically pay them a visit in order to cash out her 1k.

Am happy for you! Thanks for posting; at least it’s good to know that some accounts are being activated at all!

Ouch. Sorry to hear that.

I had called 2x to chase CIMB. Took 15 mins each time, before the calls connected. My account got opened the following day after my second call. Not sure if the calls did anything to expedite the process though.

What was your result from going down to the branch? Did they ask you to just call the hotline?

My experience with CIMB Raffles Place branch is that the customer-facing people are all pretty useless for non-routine transactions.

I wasn't able to go down to the branch, work came up. Thank you for the feedback; I may not go to the branch then as I am busy the next few days if odds are the trip is not going to achieve anything.

I did receive an email response from atyourservice@cimb.com that said "In the event of non-receipt of activation code, please contact our hot-line indicated below and our customer service officers will be able to assist with your enquiry upon a simple phone verification." The email did not provide a hotline number. Instead it said "You may visit our official CIMB Singapore website for our banking hotline number or reply to this email."

My translation -- we are not going to write down our hotline because we don't want to be swamped with calls, but we have a hotline and you can call it.

The phrases "Non-receipt of activation code" and "assist with your enquiry" really p!&&ed me off because it seemed to imply the problem is incidental and perhaps even on the customer's end, rather than a failure of process on their end where it has been weeks and despite multiple calls/emails, accounts have not been activated. Rather than taking responsibility for not activating, they are trying to deflect responsibility to a customer for non receipt of the activation code. Act blur. How can anyone receive an activation code that was never sent! What enquiry are they talking about? It's their responsibility to open an account in a reasonable time -- they are a regulated bank and not some under-the-mango-tree vendor. I don't have an enquiry. I have a complaint, a grievance.

I am so sorry for ranting. I know there are folks who have been banking there for a while and I am glad they are happy with things. But I am posting in part because I want to dissuade anyone who may be considering signing up for the promised FD rate from signing up -- just don't do it. This is a Mickey Mouse operation on the account opening front.

it took me around 5 weeks and 2 calls in between to get my acc activated

by the time my acc activated i decide to take out my 1k, i rather have a peace of mind than a little bit more of interest only even though 4.15% fd is the highest now

Forget about calling. I've tried twice and was put on hold for a long time. Will just go to their branch once my fam is back end Jan. Quite pissed off with this experience. Imagine how many 1k they are holding ransom and pushing it back to us our fault. :cautious:
