Actually 10 years is a 'magical' number that only exist in Singapore because of the COE system. All car makers design their vehicles to last at least a good 20 years. Even for vehicles that have ceased production, the automakers are obliged to continue producing spare parts for the next 10 years.
Regular repairs and maintenance is a GIVEN FACT for all products with mechanical movements. Parts for conti rides are generally more expensive because of the BRAND. The makers of the parts will mark the prices up for obvious reasons and workshops are likewise.
If you don't believe, just enquire about a tyre change at C&C (merc) and at normal tyre shop (same size, same model of tyres)
If one can accept reliable 3rd party OEM parts at your trusted ws, the maintenance and repairs will not be as what one might expect.
For value, COE Porsche can retain some good value even when the COE is up, cause there will always be people wanting to extend another 10 years. Mass market rides has value only to its current owner as he/she will understand the condition.
Just be wary and ALWAYS set aside a sum for touch-ups for 2nd hand cars, regardless COE or not.
