You know what NTUC stand for? The National Trades Union Congress. The main aims of the affiliated trade unions are to protect our workers' rights and advocate for their interests - both of which, are outcomes of utmost importance to the Labour Movement. Not suppose to make money. Now NTUC is a company in Singapore.

It started off as a co-operative owned by the trade unions to provide self-help and mutual assistance to their members.

Somebody then converted it to a company in 2022 and barely 2 years later announced they found a buyer and are in the process of selling it.

Smells a bit like SPH case.

The newspapers business was highly profitable and used its profits to buy shares and properties including Paragon and Clementi Mall.

Then somebody sold away all the non-newspapers business and throw the newspaper business to gahmen.

I think at some point Allianz will say it cannot service the lower premium policies and will strip them out and throw to gahmen.

So, why even proceed with the deal?

Isn't it better for Income to continue as it was as a co-operative and fulfil its social mission and Allianz ownself come in to build its business on its own merits and offer good deals to lure customers away from GE, AIA, Pru and Income?

Isn't it better for sinkies to get the win-win instead of having to see taxpayer money used to support the lower premium policies because someone dun like these and only want the higher premium ones?

Gahmen should show more iron and block this deal and force Income to go back as a co-operative.

Or maybe the wayang was done for the Grab-Transcab deal and this deal schemed for 2 years got more meat will get through?

Mostly true except the SPH part. Gahmen forced it into its current state, Umbrage merely sank a sinking ship deeper and faster.

Since they have lost their way, its time to offload it and let it compete and survive in open market competition. Why worry of worst case scenario if it goes private when now is already the worst case scenario of going social enterprise. Seems like the only ppl benefiting from these social enterprises are the CEOs.

Gahmen should let SPH sink and use the funding to keep NTUC afloat. Only thing valuable in SPH is edmw 🥴
