So what if you have money? A stroke of the pen and you either get to buy nothing, or you cease to receive any support.

So I ask you again. How do we ensure that it is in the country's interest to help us? Do you think that we can operate as one of the more modern military simply because we pay?

If you want to believe in and hide behind the cloak of neutrality, by all means go ahead. In reality, there's no such thing as neutrality. That's plain naive.
if the Great Appeaser hooking up with XJP, all our paid for amerivcan weaponry will do nothing in protecting this tiny island. Will the SG just fold and agree to be XJP 坡县?

Vice versa what if you dont have money or of no strategic value to US ? You think they will also give us the weapons for free ?

Whether SG is of value or not to SG there is nothing free. Just see Ukraine end up asking them pay in billions and more.

Mind you US made weapons are not cheap and it become a stage that those who buy expensive US weapons still need sort of "beg" for it and be thankful.

Doesnt it occur to you why our Asean neighbours didnt buy much from US military ?

Europe may or may not cough out money that Ukraine wants. Ukraine by herself is low in fighting manpower. Europe ready to deploy their own men fighting this war? That could lead to WW3 and if US really stop all things going there, is all over for Zelensky.

Not much bargaining power for Ukraine thats how I see it.

Bad look but at least Zelensky hasn't signed the minerals deal which does not have any security guarantee and could bankrupt Ukraine

The point that I am trying to make is while nothing is free and you must be able to afford it, there must also be a reason that someone will help you.

So I don't get the point that you are trying to make.

What do you think that the European countries will think if it's all over for Ukraine?

Europe just wants a slice of the cake which seems US is taking most of it. Now Europe is just posturing but do you see any real money goes Ukraine? All just talk first.

If Ukraine subsumes under Russia, the financial cost to Europe would be far greater. Let's wait and see how Europe will eventually support Ukraine.

My point is, "help" by others is just to milk us. To put it nicely is to help. The help also come with a high price tag that may ruin your country later just like Ukraine.

So best to solve conflicts by peaceful or negotiation.

So its stupid to be thankful to US nowadays, we are like paying protection money to a gangster to keep ourselves safe.

I am just pointing out that regardless of all the talk about self reliance, you ultimately still depends on others, especially a small country like Singapore. And help or the promise of help, comes with a price. No denying this. That's just the cruel fact of life.

You said 'best to' solve conflict by negotiation. I fully agree that it's best to do so but "best to" also means that there are other outcomes and if it comes down to that, you better wish that you wield a big enough stick so that the other party won't decide to steamroll you.

I don't think anyone is saying to be thankful to US so that's probably something in your headspace that's bothering you.

Agree with what you say above.

Not saying that you say that we need to be thankful.

I mean many sinkies have the ideas that we should be thankful to US and their presence militarily even we paid a good deal of money to them for the weapons.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...t-behind-zelenskyy-after-heated-trump-meeting

“Today, it became clear that the free world needs a new leader. It’s up to us, Europeans, to take this challenge.”

Addressing Zelenskyy directly, Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the EU Commission, wrote: “Your dignity honors the bravery of the Ukrainian people. Be strong, be brave, be fearless. You are never alone.”

She added: “We will continue working with you for a just and lasting peace.”

They will take their time when being asked for manpower, weapons and money.
