CPU Processer running at 100% all the time.

Windows update is just the tip of the ice bergs.

I've been seeing 130+ to 150+ processes in most of the newer system by ignorant users treating their PC like thrash can.

This PC I'm using to post this only 46 processes, machine linked and networking environment included.

Try disabling BITS and wuauserv and see if the CPU goes down. Last time it was these 2 giving me 100% usage.

Mine is wmpservice from Microsoft and service host something. Backup read and write stuff, did a factory rest and reinstall all the essential drivers and programs again. Now everything is fine.

Also if you have steam, certain features like blocking too many people WILL also result in CPU reaching 100% especially at start.

wudn't those mentioned be shown in task mgr & resource monitor which process is high cpu?

here are 2 screenshots of my task manager.

the processes are constantly changing. as u can see there really isn't a process i can pinpoint that is taking up most of the CPU resources.

Chrome alone took up more than 50% of your CPU, that's the problem.

Are you streaming video from Youtube using Chrome? If yes, install the h264ify for Chrome extension. A known problem with the Chrome VP9 codec.

hmm if TS is not streaming video, then TS can try to disable chrome apps from running in background.

no i wasn't streaming any video.

i just did a fresh bootup and the first thing i did was open task manager to check on processes. no programs were open (except the ones that automatically load on startup, like skype) and usage is still 100%.

also did a virus scan with windows defender and killed 2 viruses. malware scan detected nothing.

is there a chance this could be due to processor failing? or like thermal paste dying up? note that when i did safe mode bootup the processor was at 0-5%.

Your chrome cpu usage is really high. Maybe you open lots of tab? My chrome at most around 20 percent usage only. And my CPU usage is 0% when I fresh start my windows. Which should be the ideal case.

Disable unnecessary startup program using msconfig to reduce program running in the background that is hogging the CPU whenever Windows starts up every time I myself disable almost everything except my avast antivirus.

Maybe you can screenshot or tell me which program is hogging up the CPU after you do a computer restart?

Cannot be chrome hogging the CPU again as Google chrome does not auto start when windows starts.

Edit: My bad just check and try running some tabs with websites and youtube video playing. The tab with only website is 0% usage, while the tab that is playing a youtube video hovers around 4-5% usage only. So overall google chrome only uses 4%-5% CPU usage on average for my case. One simple thing you can try is to uninstall google chrome and restart your PC to check if the cpu is still running at 100%.

scanned for virus already. did have 2 viruses but killed them.
