well if u stress test it, it will be quite high, but whats ur usage on it anyway? :s11: if normal work application or intensive gaming, u should do that measurement instead of stress test it.

P95 can cause unusually high temps on post Nehalem cpus because of AVX instructions.. Temps are not unusual but run P95 in moderation.

Normal usage can get up to 50 to 60+ degrees C. Is it normal?

Mine is a Haswell 4460 with stock cooler. Should I change cooler? Any recommendation?

I want to install games and play but scared temp too high leh ...

Install and try, if hit 70+ is normal for our climate, somemore recently weather so hot. How old your build? Is your HSF clogged with dust?

If hit 80-90C while playing game, maybe time to clean and reapply HSF.

technically no problem since likely that IHS has not hit Tcase: http://ark.intel.com/products/80817/Intel-Core-i5-4460-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_40-GHz

but if you mind can always go for aftermarket cooler:

OK thanks guys.

I think I'll change the cooler and use the chance to inspect the cpu too.

Btw how do you monitor the cpu temp while playing games?

would be good if you can post a picture of the inside of your computer case, easier to provide further advice.

my pc is about 5~6 years intel 2nd gen, playing with intensive games like BF3 only hit 70+ for 1 hr so by right haswell should not be worse or higher temp den mine :s8:

Haswell maybe hotter than sandy/ivy because of fivr on cpu instead of mobo and not to mention the bad Tim between IHS and chip did...

Sent from Huawei NEXUS 6P using GAGT

My 3570k on stock clock+intel HSF peaked at 70+ degrees in games. Current 4690k same setup hitting 80+ close to 90, stable 100 degrees at 4.6GHz.

Not sure if DC is just hotter or they did something with the HSF but they look identical to me. Both tests repeated with MX4 not stock paste.

The voltage regulator (hence fivr - fully integrated voltage regulator) for Haswell is on cpu instead of motherboard as with other generations. That component generates quite a bit of heat on its own which therefore accounts for the extreme rise in temperature

Hsf won't make much of a difference because it's basically the same and equally effective at stock...

TIM (I.e. the material between the die and IHS, integrated heat spreader, the piece of metal that your CPU specifications is engraved on) is alot worse because in Sandy bridge and HEDT cpu (x99, x79) it is actually soldered so temps then were alot better because heat conduction away from die is faster...
