Seems similar findings...

ASRock H81M-ITX
AnandTech Forums - What motherboards have Non-Z overclocking enabled for Pentium 3258?

incidentally, voltage doesn't seem to be limited on this motherboard

Intel XTU

Done a 1 hour testing and went to sleep, morning woke up and still found the setup still running!

4.7ghz 1.366v. Still going strong!

btw, do note that the inappropriately named XTU stress test is not really meaningful unlike the XTU benchmark cos... the benchmark is actually more stressful than the stress tests as others have found out too. :o

imo, better to have invested that hour in P95 instead.

Heheh, that you had invested more than an hour in running the XTU stress test shows Intel has done you a disfavour by their naming deception. A stress test which is actually less stressful than the benchmark... lol

As they say... Lies, damned lies, and statistics - Wiki

btw, the worst culprits are those who purposefully, yes knowingly tout such statistics to showcase their o'cing capabilities eg. using a mere HyperPi 8M to show off their CPU overclock, 4.8GHz wor...=:p

Old birds would know better that HyperPi is more an indicator of IMC/RAM stability than CPU stability and at the least, you should run the longer & more stressful 32M as well. But unfortunately, lesser informed forumers might be taken in by the devious scheme.

Hmm, think I had better not get started on those show offs who use SuperPi 1M....

Asrock Z87 Killer
As said previously, better to pair with a higher end model for i7 chips. Even if it is only just for the more detailed attention paid to the BIOS programming... yes, this a proper Intel sanctioned o'cing Z model.

I simply love it when they get the vcore/vcache voltage programming properly sorted out in higher end models. :)

Here's where the stock Intel HSF on the Asus H81M-A starts getting out of steam in our local hot spell...

Max load temps reaching high eighties liao but still no thermal throttling yet :)

Nice clocks and temps! Your 2nd chip?

Not really sure why but the final score seems rather low, 329@4.7 vs 330@4.5 as seen in post #150. Maybe can run RAM higher or tighten the timings...

Really looks like just the 2 of us are actively playing with the PenK in this thread... lol

Here's my little contribution again.

Clock vs Vcore vs XTU Score Scaling

4.5

4.6

4.7

Note that all the above are tested for XTU Bench stability only and are not finalised settings for 24/7 except for the 4.5GHz which seems reasonably stable enough for dual pass x264 transcoding over many multiple sessions. :)

Delided + Zalman (iron man core) + CLU thermal paste

Total temp reduction of 16deg! . A good drop from Non Delid - 81deg, Delid with MX4 - 71deg, With CLU - 65deg!!!

how to be sure if a non-Z series motherboard can adjust voltage and over clock the G3258? of course, other than searching online for successful cases...

anyway, newegg has a deal on G3258 bundle today. the GA one does OC, not so sure about the Biostar. GA board seems to have better cooling and video ports. Biostar board is MATX with 4 ram slots.

G3258 + BIOSTAR Hi-Fi B85S3+ for $83
Combo: 1760450

G3258 + Gigabyte GA-B85-HD3 for $108
Combo: 1760443
