Recently my son's data also blew the top with 5~6G used per month. A check on the iPhone shows that he used 3.5G for Twitter and 1.5 for Apple App Store. Any knows how could sending twitter for about 20 days can come up to 3.5G?

He might be uploading or viewing tons of photo.
The data counter in iOS7 needs manual reset every month.

if you are using ios 7, then you will know which app is eating your data plan.

disable background refresh of facebook, flickr.
they will sync your photo if you have allowed it before.

singtel will charge on per 20KB or 50KB block.
e.g. you send one iMessage or whatsapp. then phone disconnects from internet..
this is just 160 bytes.
however, Singtel will make that as 20000bytes (20KB). check previous post where singtel bill shows dozens of 20KB data usage.

my suggestion:
1. use ios7 and check the built-in data counter.
all data counter that you download in app store are useless.

2. run some chat program on the background. e.g. whatsapp, viber, skype. yahoo messenger. this will somehow keeps your internet connected and doesnt disconnect always.. lessening the 20KB block charge..

btw, i have moved to starhub because of the 20KB block charge of singtel
That explains it. Thanks for e heads up.

For me, I'd more than 800Mb in a day alone. I'd called in with Singtel for them to log in this data crazy surged when my next bill cycle come. Do monitor regularly if you dun want to be "carrot head" hah

i have the same issue as you wrote in n cc their ceo however still waiting. How do they make it back to normal in your case? or what did you whine to them?

Thanks

Guys, just sharing... take note that sometimes when u do app updates n your phone and it goes to sleep or 3G/wifi goes into some disconnection. This will result in improper disconnection, your phone will keep trying to reconnect to the server to establish link. This is what i noticed. Also, some APP if not installed properly as above conditions will also keep connectig to the internet. I last time got an incident tat flew my 3G past 12GB.

A fresh phone restore n individual APP installation back solved this issue. But painful experience on the restoration of ata individually

Actually I'm beginning to see less & less benefits of having automatic application updates in background.

If the user is sync-ing via iTunes every few days, perhaps it's better to fall back on using iTunes application to grab the updated app versions...

Twitter is constantly refreshing, especially when someone @xxx you, notifications will appear. it gets worse if you have "Friends" or "Followers"

Your son most likely have Hundreds or Thousands of friends. that "Likes" or "Tag" you with messages. Plus there's PICTURES, or VINES (Short clips)

Yours went up to 5~6GB .... Mine BLEW THE PHONE UP with 35GB in 20 days, beat that

I am amazed at how some country have 4G unlimited data for 80 dollars a month. Why doesn't any telco have an unlimited data plan?
