Hi guys, to share I also have this issue after recon tract with Singtel after downgrade 12gb to 4gb. First few days already chalked up 2.2gb. after writing to feedback @ singtel to whine at them Data went back to normal and they gimme $30 off. You may want to monitor the data and write to them. Dun be a carrot head

Regardless surfing using 4G or 3G, data consumption shd be the same right?

Also, if I am surfing via WIFI, can I safely assume no 3G/4G data consumption is taking place concurrently?

TIA

For me, I'd more than 800Mb in a day alone. I'd called in with Singtel for them to log in this data crazy surged when my next bill cycle come. Do monitor regularly if you dun want to be "carrot head" hah

guess not, correct me if i am wrong, 4g will search and load higher res photos and videos so more data.

guess no also, unless ur like me off cellular and connect to wifi, else if wifi is weaker, phone would use 3g combine with wifi

just my take

those having huge data surge can check under settings > cellular. it shows breakdown of data usage by app. check which app is eating yr data.

Those running on data surge, rather than checking on the cellular usage, i would suggest to download singtel app, reset your cellular usage, take a screenshot of both and after 1 day, take another screenshot to compare. Do this comparison for a few days and would know where went wrong. Any irregularities to shout to singtel ASAP.

If you are using singtel myBill, you can actually see the itemized data access via your mobile number from your bill. Although it only states the date and approx. time of access and the amount data that was billed.

To access the itemized list, go to your bill summary, find the link "Local Mobile Data/GPRS Data ", a separate page should pop-up showing the list. You can export this list to excel or print it out.

i also experienced sudden surge in data using iphone5 with ST.
within 5 days my data became 2.8
previous months data were 4.5 and 3.7 respectively.
i called 1688 and the stupid CSO kept insisting their data monitoring is accurate till he finally agreed to investigate.

based on past usage pattern, my data hardly exceeded 3.
i was using 4s.

Did anyone find out what that 20500.0kb item is? I have a lot of that too, and my data is also getting used up much faster than usual.

Hi, is anyone still experiencing the same problem? I've been experiencing this problem few days back. I'm a mere 700+mb usuage monthly. Whenever I am home(most of the time) I'm connected to wifi with my cellular data turned off. Normally turning on my cellular data only occurred when I am out or during midnight, with very minimal usage like browsing Facebook for few minutes, twitter for few minutes or so. I hardly ever watch youtube videos on mobile data. Unknowingly and surprisingly, within 2-3 days, I've noticed that my data via the singtel app, increased from 500+ Mb to 800+ mb within few minutes or hours? Then till today, it hit up to 1.1gb? What's going on man. This is getting scary and annoying. Now I've to keep monitoring my usage.

if you are using ios 7, then you will know which app is eating your data plan.

disable background refresh of facebook, flickr.
they will sync your photo if you have allowed it before.

singtel will charge on per 20KB or 50KB block.
e.g. you send one iMessage or whatsapp. then phone disconnects from internet..
this is just 160 bytes.
however, Singtel will make that as 20000bytes (20KB). check previous post where singtel bill shows dozens of 20KB data usage.

my suggestion:
1. use ios7 and check the built-in data counter.
all data counter that you download in app store are useless.

2. run some chat program on the background. e.g. whatsapp, viber, skype. yahoo messenger. this will somehow keeps your internet connected and doesnt disconnect always.. lessening the 20KB block charge..

btw, i have moved to starhub because of the 20KB block charge of singtel

Yes indeed many websites or web services (Youtube for example) do examine your internet connection speed and serve up different versions of the same content, therefore data consumption may vary. However, most typical websites don't do this, though.

Comparing to 3G, however, a user can typically do more things when on 4G within the same period of time, so there is a tendency to do more, thus use more data.

I recommend you adjust your smartphone settings and turn off some of the data-consuming features if you don't use them. For iOS 7 on iPhone, background refresh, and iCloud are 2 common culprits turned on by default that will sync tons of stuffs when you are not looking - those apps, songs and etc that you bought at home on iPad connected to wifi, that magically appear on your phone on cellular must come from somewhere. So are your photos (these can easily go up to a few GBs, if you have synce enbled and sharing photo stream turned on), and iMessages (with all those photo attachments that is 1 - 2 MB each in size), and email accounts with all those huge attachments.

Hi guys when I was using iPhone 4 I used 800mb per month
When I was using 4s it was 1.6 gb per months
Now 5s it's 2.9 gb per month - very close to my max of 3gb

I have been using Singtel and I would say there is no change in my usage. Perhaps I use more whatsapp and browse he net but I don't watch videos. Any reason why it goes up so much?

I look at the settings of my app usage. They do not correspond with the data I used with Singtel. Is there a problem here? I have to turn off my data plan the last 10 days of my billing cycle to avoid overpaying
