Just comes across as weird, coz a phone and a DAP have diff core competencies.
One could of coz use a phone as a music player, but of coz, the SQ will be compromised.

whats your listening habit do you listen to whole albums?

icic i will try a dap when i can

Really depends on your requirements.

A dap is a dedicated equipment for audio playback.
A phone + amp or dac for audio playback is akin to square peg for round hole; peg can go in, but never a good fit.

I usually listen by albums. And these days, I try to listen to music beyond my own comfort zone.
After all, I love listening to music. Quite tired of the equipment chasing.

whats your point? please dont detract from the thread or OT

I think what guan22 meant is that your phone is bottlenecking ur UERM from showing its full potential. Similar to PC hardware, using an USB 1.0 to transfer 10gb worth of files. The USB 1.0 is ur phone and the 10gb file is ur UERM.

Go and test multiple daps, they confirm sound way better than phone. Unless u cannot hear the diff then good for your wallet.

I'll just share my thoughts since I also deliberated on the same problem as the TS.

Previously, I was using the RHA MA750i with my iPhone 5S. Good compatibility, and I can answer calls with it, so I seldom find the need to use my C5D DAC/Amp, let alone have the need for a separate DAP (I actually tested the MA750i with the FiiO X1 and find the pairing inferior to it with the iPhone 5S).

However, when I changed to the Dita Answer, everything changed :vijayadmin:

The Answer sounded totally different when listened straight out from the iPhone 5S, so I had to listen to it paired with the C5D.

However, it now comes with alot of cons:

The stack is bulky, due to the extra cables and it's super troublesome when the stack is in your pocket, and you suddenly get a call and you need to take the stack out of your pocket, disconnect the phone, then you can answer it. After your call, you have to connect the phone back to your DAC.

Your phone becomes alot more unwieldy as a stack too, so it's hard to surf the net using one hand on the public transportation.

So I went to audition for a dap. Tried out the FiiO X1, X3, X5, the iBasso DX90, and the AK100 messo. None of them really appeal to me like my C5D did and some of them are really pricey especially when compared to the C5D. The cheapest one that I felt that was better was the AK100II and that costs more than the iphone 5S!

So what I plan to do now is to get a AK100 MKII while I slowly save up for the AK100II. I may change my phone every 1-2 years but I don't envision changing my AK100II anytime soon, so I'm more willing to fork out that higher price for the DAP.

I won't recommend getting a cheaper but inferior DAP as you will probably upgrade soon. You might as well get what you want and skip the upgrade step. Only reason I'm getting the AK100 MKII is because unlike other DAPs like the FiiO or iBasso, I think it has better resell value, and I can always keep it for modification purposes in the future.

I think in this hobby, alot of people will go through the "gear chasing" phase, especially when you crave better sound, but you still do not know what kind of sound you like, so you keep experimenting and buying new stuff.

That was about 3-5 years ago for me, keep changing headphones, earphones, amps etc.

But nowadays, I find it easy to resist new poison because my current gear really fit my preferred sound so not easy to find another gear that will fit my preference even more than what I have.

Past the chase equipment stage. Miracle is 3 years old, and is still perfectly happy with it.

MG6pro + Virus + DX50 combo untouched for 3 years methinks?

Spend more money on music and stop worrying about the chain.
